SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi,
We've recently moved to heavy use of metafields. This unlocks the possibility of automatically completing the descriptions on our product pages with liquid code.
One blocker that would stop us doing that would be how Shopify assigns the search engine listing info.
At the moment, this is pulled from the product description. Ideally we'd be able to populate this information with similar rules to how we'd populate product pages.
Does anyone know if there is a way to amend how that meta description is populated, either within Shopify's main settings or via an app integration?

This is an accepted solution.
you would be able to add the rules it in the theme template files. The same you you would add it to the product descriptions . But it would not show up in the Meta description section as show in your picture.

Ahhh....that's very interesting. The important thing is that the correct information is passed to search engines, not that the product screen UI remains consistent with this.
That's really good to know. Thank you!
hi @IP1999 : how's it going? Don't suppose you can give me a pointer on which theme file is the usual place for meta descriptions. Is it product.json?
