Confusion about installing the global site tag

Hi there,

I enabled Google Analytics by completing Step 3 shown in this tutorial: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup

I did not adjust my theme.liquid by adding the global site tag. Do I need to do so?

I now want to use Google Ads conversion tracking, I was reading the following article: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/analyze-marketing/tracking-adwords-conversion.... In this tutorial it is mentioned to add the global site tag to theme.liquid. 

My question now is. Do I really need to use this globale site tag or is it not needed anymore since I already pasted "UA-xxxxxxxx-x" to the form of Google Analytics (Online store > Preferences).

Google no longer has tracking info with the new version of google analytics. You can connect the new version ‘GA4’ to Shopify by watching this video: https://youtu.be/MdCaEMqxjSA
