Hi,

 

I'm looking to be able to pass some data through to Google Ads which identifies whether a user who has converted is a new or existing customer.

 

Is this possible through Shopify's more standard settings/options or would i need to reach out to our wider development team to try and query the database as a purchase is made?

Hello Henry,

Thanks for your query.

Shopify by default doesn't provide any conversion tracking setup.

nevertheless, you can track the conversion  and send it to Google ads using the channel apps 

and 

Google Tag Manager(GTM)

 

Google Tag Manager GTM enables us to set up conversion tracking for different ads platform like facebook ads via facebook pixel,

google analytics 4, google ads, tiktok pixel, snapchat pixel and so on. 

furthermore GTM enables us to set up server side subdomain tracking which ultimately ensures the data accuracy for different ads platform.

While setting up UTM tracking for Google Ads is an option you can consider, I would recommend taking an easier route-- installing a conversion tracking app for Google Ads. 

 

Most conversion tracking apps have very easy installation and tracking. They install the pixel on all the desired pages + events you want to track (conversions, abandoned cart, add to cart, purchases, initiate check outs), and also display information about the customer. 

 

I highly recommend using 'Nabu for Google Ads Pixel', it will help you with conversion tracking data from your Google Ads. Also it has a one click set up! You will gain access to the data you are after without much technical set up.
