I recently launched a high-end dog accessories online shop. During our launch, we used images of around 35 friends' and family members' dogs (referred to as "FoH"). We now want to thank these people for their generosity. We have three options: 1) send a discount voucher, 2) send a gift card, or 3) send a personalized dog tag. Our objective is to thank the FoH while maximizing conversions, increasing brand awareness and reducing the cost. Our margin is typically 40%. Which option would be the best to consider?
Hi @JVinagre
If you're looking to balance costs and maximize both conversions and brand awareness, the personalized dog tag might be the way to go. It's thoughtful, personal, and aligns with your high-end brand. Plus, it keeps your business in the recipient's mind whenever they see it on their dog.
However, the discount voucher could be a quicker, more cost-effective route to drive sales. It may not feel as personal, but it encourages people to buy from your shop again.
Gift cards are nice but could be seen as a bit impersonal, and not everyone might use them right away.
If you really want to make an impact, you could even consider pairing a dog tag with a discount voucher to hit both marks—personal gesture + incentive to buy again. That way, you're saying thanks while also nudging them toward another purchase.
I hope this helps!
Hi @JVinagre,

Regarding your question about which option is best for showing appreciation towards your customers, I think a Personalized Dog Tag is a thoughtful, cost-effective way to strengthen your bond with customers and foster brand loyalty. This gesture shows you care about their pets and creates a lasting emotional connection. While it may not directly lead to sales, the long-term benefits in terms of brand awareness and customer retention are significant. You may also want to consider adding a small discount code to the tag as a bonus, encouraging future purchases and combining immediate and long-term value.
If you find these suggestions helpful for you, please let me know by giving BON Loyalty a 'LIKE' or marking it as a 'SOLUTION'. 😊

Dear Tracy,
Thank you so much for your advice! We've decided to proceed with offering personalized dog tags along with a discount code for future purchases. This means I’ll be sending a thank-you email to each person on our friends and family list, letting them know they can choose their preferred dog tag model on our shop and provide personalization details such as their dog's name and phone number. They'll also receive a discount code for their next purchase.
I’m wondering if you could help me with one question: How can I ensure the dog tag is automatically set to cost zero at checkout without requiring the customer to manually apply a code? What would be the best way to handle this?
Thank you again for your support!
Hi again dear @JVinagre ,
I am so glad to hear that my suggestion has helped you picked out the best present for your valueable customers. Now, regarding your question about ways to automatically discount for those customers when they add the customized dog tag to their cart, it is pretty tricky that Shopify only offers solutions for one of your two requirements.
Here is how it works:
- To enable discounts to be applied automatically at check-out phase without having to enter a code manually, Automatic discount type in Shopify Discount function should be able to do so. However, it does not have a function where you can select a specific eligible group of customers, which means, whoever add this product to their cart will automatically receives this discount, which is not advisable in this case. As far as I know, there is not any available solution to limit a product for a groups of customers on Shopify stores.
- If you wish to use Customer eligibility, this function is only available in the Discount code type. With this type, it will requires your buyers to enter the code when they check out.
So, I suggest you may want to try out third-party app on Shopify's App Store, such as Automatic Discounts & Gifts or Bold Discounts, that allow for automatic discount applications and free product giveaways without requiring the customer to enter a code.
These options can ensure a seamless customer experience by automatically applying the discount or free product at checkout without additional steps from the customers.
I hope my answer is helpful for you 😊
Best,
Tracy
