Hi, I just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on if I need to have the brand/designer in the title of my products please?
I use to have the name of the designer in the main title but this was starting to get long and did not look right when viewing in the category as it was listing the brand in the title and underneath it had the brand again. So I have started removing the brand from the main title but kept it in the SEO title. However I am concerned this is not good for google organic traffic and wondered if I should not have dont that? Particularly as some brands we sell are popular and customers will search specifically for that brand?
Because i've removed from main title will that affect me please? or because its in my SEO title will I be OK?
That is a great question about SEO!
While it is important to include keywords like the designer name that your product is associated with, it's also important to have meaningful content. I recommend having the designer name in your SEO title, as well as the URL, to make sure that your SEO matches the content of your product.
It's best to have the most relevant keywords for your products/brand. Think about what customers would search to get to your store. If you need some help brainstorming, you can download an extension for Google Chrome, called, Keywords Everywhere, whenever you make a search, it will show you the traffic for that keyword.
Once you know what keywords you want to use, it's important to use these in your page title, description, as well as in your alt text for images. Click here to find out how to add alt text to your product images. It's also important the URL and filenames of your content match. For example, if you had a t-shirt with a brand named, "Pop" then you would add the t-shirt's name and the brand name, "Pop" in your filenames and URLs.
Lastly, it's important to add your sitemap.xml file to the Google Search Console, so that Google can crawl your website and add these pages to search engine results. Our help doc on finding and submitting your sitemap has all the steps to do this for your store. To learn more about how you can improve your SEO, check out this help doc. Let me know if that helps!
i have the same question here buddy. I hope you get an answer im waiting for an answer too
Thank you that’s really useful information, but can you please confirm the importance of brand name in the product title for organic google ratings.
As you know shopify have product title and SEO product title. I know it’s important for the SEO Title which is where I have kept it but is it important for main title too please?
Start with users first. Would the brand be helpful for someone visiting your site. That would likely depend on how many products you have and whether the brand is immediately recognizable. Sometimes it's helpful to look at examples from other ecommerce sites. For example, here Zappos includes the brand name in the product title, the permalink, as well as the product description https://www.zappos.com/p/nike-air-zoom-pegasus-36-black-white-thunder-grey/product/9191853/color/755...,
Typically, the more descriptive and longer tail the keywords your targeting, the better likelihood organic traffic could follow but that also depends on how saturated your product already is online.
