Does changing product size wording impact SEO?

Hey Everyone,

On my Shopify Store, each product has more than one size option. I wonder if changing the wording of the options will affect the page's SEO, potentially in a positive way. In other words, does Google's crawler also look into the texts options to do the ranking?

Below is a toy example:

Will there be a difference in SEO between the two product pages below?

Shoe Model 1

Size Options:

- 10

- 11

- 12

vs

Same Shoe Model 1

Size Options:

- 10 Shoe

- 11 Shoe

- 12 Shoe

(I know, it might not make much sense to list shoe sizes as above. However, it would make sense in my sector if Google is considering the text in the options)

Hey @arifgunaydin!

Changing the wording of the options on your product pages can potentially affect your SEO in a positive way, as Google's crawlers do consider the text on the page when ranking. However, the impact of such changes will likely be relatively small compared to other SEO factors such as the quality and relevance of your content, backlinks, and user engagement.

In terms of the specific example you provided, the second option may be slightly more advantageous for SEO since it includes additional descriptive text. However, it's important to ensure that the text is relevant and useful to your audience and not simply added for the sake of SEO.

Ultimately, when making changes to your website, it's essential to prioritize your user experience and ensure that your content is well-organized, informative, and easy to navigate. This will not only benefit your SEO but also improve your overall conversion rate and customer satisfaction.

Hi Moira,

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I think the second option in my example will provide better user experience as well (for my specific case ofcourse). I'll consider the points you put forward while organizing the store.

Thank you!

Hello @arifgunaydin,

Yes, changing the wording of the options for each product's size can potentially have an impact on the page's SEO. This is because Google's crawler analyzes all of the content on a webpage, including the text used for product options.

When optimizing your product options for SEO, it is essential to use relevant and descriptive keywords that accurately reflect the different sizes and variations of your products. This will help Google understand the content on your page and rank it accordingly in search results.

It's also important to ensure that the content on your page is user-friendly and easy to navigate. If customers have difficulty finding the right size or variation of a product, they are more likely to leave your site and go elsewhere.

By using clear and concise wording for your product options, you can help users find what they need quickly and easily, which can ultimately lead to higher conversion rates and improved SEO rankings.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
