SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello community,
I was wondering if there any way to email a discount voucher as soon as the customer signs up to your newsetter, rather that send it yourself manually at a later stage. This is very common in many eshops but I cannot find any such functionality in the Admin page (i.e. notification, customer etc)
Thanks a lot in advance
If you use mailchimp for your list, you can set it up as an automation. if you are using the free mailchimp, automation is an additional fee. To get around this, I've been using Klaviyo and have synced my mailchimp to it. I have set it up so that once someone signs up to my mailchimp list, Klaviyo sends a discount code. I hope this helps!
I am using the Swell Rewards, which has automation. I now have to figure Mail Chimp out so I can actually MAKE the newsletters LOL
Thanks for your heads up to Klaviyo. Is it also possible through Klaviyo to send a different discount code to each customer? Either by importing bulk codes, or by pointing Klaviyo to get them them directly from your Shopify Discounts
Hello, I am using MailChimp and Coupon Courier! 🙂 I use Bulk Coupon to create codes in bulk and import them to the coupon courier app.
I'm thinking of doing this too... maybe just setting up one discount code that has a year expiry date, but setting it to be single use per customer.
What is a good value to use for the discount?
I have a pop up on my store that gives 'new' customers a coupon code for joining our email list. I recently found out that a percentage (15-20%) are using a new email everytime to get a new code. I'm rethinking this, Instead, I'm considering giving them something else and saving the coupon code for a future email.
Hi there, how did you create this?
Swell + Bulk Discounts works for me
Hi Nikos,
There is an app called Spently, which is an app that allows you to create custom Shopify email notifications. When a customer creates an account on your store, they will automatically receive a confirmation email to let them know the account was created. With Spently, you can customize the new account email to your liking (as well as all other Shopify notification emails) and one of the great features that Spently offers is the ability to include dynamically generated coupon codes in any notification email sent through Shopify.
Spently gives you the option to offer dynamic or single use coupon codes with a dollar amount or a percentage discount...and they tie right into your discount code generator on your shopify admin. Check them out on the app store or here: http://spently.com.
If you don't want to pay for an app, you can always add your own static coupon in any notificaiton email template on your Shopify admin and the custoemr will receive the coupon in the notification email when it is sent to them.
Another option is to find apps that offer coupons for customers that join your mailing list. There are a ton of them on the app store. Good Luck!
One discount Code, with Expiry Date - 1Use works (as Sarah Brown said). Also what we do is that, When you ship customer's items, we include a discount card for their next purchase. Lots of our customer uses them when they reorder. People also like to have a physcal card, more than emails. It is more personal.
We tried Swell, people dont use the points somehow... and bulk discount is way too complicated. Keep it simple.
I recently switched to Privy - Free email popups for newsletter sign-ups which is easy to use and sends a coupon code/discount immediately to my potential customer. Then I have Smart & Easy Email Marketing by Bizzy for sequential email marketing that automates my email blasts and allows me to create messages and promos quicker than any other app I have used before.
Thanks, Marji! I am one of the founders of Smart & Easy Email Marketing by Bizzy and we make it extremely simple to send discount codes to newly signed up customers. In fact, we automatically create the discount codes for you right before the email sends. So, you don't need to create any discount codes yourself! You can create a Bizzy account here and get started on a free trial. We have 100% five star reviews and we'd love to help you get set up over the phone.
I've been using Bizzy and can't say enough about how great the platform and their support us. I'd definitely check it out.
We use Better Coupon box. We get close to 1000 customers using our discount codes.

you can test it out if you want on our web site Beloved Gift Shop
I have found great success using optinmonster. Not only does it increase newslettersignup but it also makes it easy to automate sending out discount codes. Lots of great features.

Hi Kevin, I have looked at optinmonster but wasn't sure how well it would integrate with Shopify. Any problems? What should I know?
Hi Katerine,
I have used it on a non-shopify account and it has worked very well.
Their documentation seems pretty easy:

Hello,
You can also try our Ecommerce landing page and popup app for Shopify where you can make popups that when a user enters their email, they will automatically see the coupon within the popup after signing up.
Also, we offere landing pages, split testing and a bunch of cool features. We will also help you with your initial setup and try and get everything working as you hope.
We are making a bunch of upgrades so there might be some bugs but we'll try and work with you to do whatever you are hoping 🙂 Feel free to ask me any questions also.
Take a look at Soundest. For newsletter signup you can choose between a one time email or a 3-email campaign We also use it for abandoned cart and all our email campaigns instead of mailchimp. It also does order thank you and customer reactivation emails.
Some of these are nice solutions but they all generally run too pricey. I mean if you're a watch company making a few hundred off a sale, good for you. But for small craft sites even $10/month stacks up to the nickel and dime nature of everything else.
Keep up the good work guys but cheapen your prices. If I have to pay the minimum and you without great features for all those but your top-tier clients it's grating on the nerves.
Wow guys!!! Thanks a lot every one of you for taking the time to reply to my question! I will read in detail your recommendation and I am sure that I will find the best fit solution for my case!
If you use Mailchimp, then all you have to do is set up Automation, then create the template which will be used to go out for evey new person that signs up. Offer them a small discount clearly on your site. It's like you are buying the customer, but aren't we all. In Shopify, just set up a Welcome10, Welcome20, Welcome30, Welcome40, Welcome50. Each with a different discount depending on the value of the purchase... In the long run, you want to sell higher... And it works, people really buy more to save more...
Set these coupon codes so that they can only be used once per email address. You will probably sell the same customer 5 times at different amounts of their spending... See my Screen shot below...
My whole plan is to get them to sign up rather than making a purchase. Once they have signed up, they have a CLV of $233 for each new customer I acquire.
I hope this helps, and it come from experience... Happy selling to all...
We use a shopify app called Better Coupon Box to create a pop up box on the store that offers a 30% (single use per customer) promo code to shoppers that sign up to our mailing list. The mailing list is a Mailchimp list that integrates with our shopify account and automatically sends a welcome message to new customers including the promocode.
We find that we get a high enough number of sales from email campaigns to justify this and that while the 30% reduces margins quite a lot on the initial sale that a large number of those shoppers will make multiple purchases, we automate follow up emails to all first time purchasers offering them a 10% discount on their next purchase which also works well.
I'm thinking of doing this too... maybe just setting up one discount code that has a year expiry date, but setting it to be single use per customer
I'm developing an app that generates unique discount codes when a customer subscribes to your mailing list in Mailchimp. I'm going to roll it out within the next few weeks. Let me know if you are interested in a private beta access.
Cheers,
Lukasz Wiktor

I've created an app called Personal Discount. This app creates unique discount codes for every person that signs up for your email list in MailChimp. You can install it at https://app.personaldiscount.me/install
Hey Nikos! Love your store.
As to your question, we're obsessed with email at our company. We’ve spent 1000’s of hours editing 100’s of client email accounts, and terms of cutting costs and finding revenue growth opportunities for Fortune 500 companies and startups, here are the questions we believe brands should be asking:
1. Do you send emails now?
2. What do they say?
3. Who do you send to?
4. How are they segmented?
5. What time do they send?
6. How do you vary your message?
7. Do you send the same message to everyone?
8. Have you ever done any testing?
We wrote an extensive post on our blog to help build out that audit. Thought you might find it useful: http://bit.ly/2G9pzfi
Hope that helps! Good luck to ya.
I've created an app that generates a unique discount code for every customer who signs up for your newsletter. The app is called Personal Discount and it integrates with MailChimp so you can send the unique discount code in a welcome email through an automated campaign. The app enables you to define a custom code pattern, e.g. HELLO-XXXXX and the actual codes will be like HELLO-GR8DL or HELLO-A2JSO. You can install Personal Discount at https://app.personaldiscount.me/install

Why isnt your app in the shopify app store?
Hi Jason,
my app has been recently approved by Shopify but it's still not visible in the App Store because they are transitioning to a new listing format. Once they launch the new listing design then Personal Discount will be on the list. Please see the attached email screenshot. https://prnt.sc/kl09x8
Best regards,
Lukasz
I'm happy to let you know that Personal Discount has been already published in the App Store:

Hello
you can use app Auto Discount: Welcome Voucher to email a discount voucher as soon as the customer signs up to your newsetter. In app configuration, you can set lot of options and rules how discount voucher will be generated for customer, who register to your newsletter.
You can do this through your email marketing service provider (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or whatever you use).
If you don't have one, then just use Shopify Email which is basic, but cheap (10,000 free emails per month). Here's a quick summary of how to set up a Shopify welcome email.
Once that is set up, one of the content blocks in the Shopify Email template builders is a discount block. So you can just add that to your welcome email template, and you should be all set.
The great thing is that Shopify Email is so cheap it ends up being free for most stores, at least until they have a somewhat large email list.
