Hi @absolutelyglow

When you see the error message "This business is not the same as the existing catalogs owning the business" on Facebook or Instagram, it means there's a mismatch between the Business Manager account linked to your catalog and the Business Manager account you’re trying to use. This usually happens when you try to connect a catalog owned by one Business Manager to another account without transferring ownership or ensuring proper access permissions.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to fix it:

1. Verify Business Manager Ownership

  • Go to Business Settings in your Facebook Business Manager.
  • Navigate to Accounts > Catalogs and confirm which Business Manager owns the catalog causing the issue.
  • Check if you have admin access to the catalog and the Business Manager account that owns it.

2. Grant Permissions

  • If the catalog belongs to a different Business Manager, request access permissions:
    • In Business Settings, select the catalog under Accounts > Catalogs.
    • Click Assign Partners and use their Business Manager ID to give access.
    • Assign the right role (Catalog Admin, Editor, or Advertiser) depending on what you need.

3. Transfer Ownership (If Necessary)

  • If the catalog is in the wrong Business Manager and you need it under a different account, you'll have to request a transfer of ownership:
    • Contact the current catalog owner and ask them to go to Business Settings > Accounts > Catalogs.
    • Select the catalog, click Assign Partners, and transfer ownership to your desired Business Manager.

4. Reconnect the Catalog

  • Once permissions or ownership are sorted, go to your Commerce Manager:
    • Check if the catalog is correctly linked to the Business Manager you want to use.
    • Reconnect it by selecting Settings > Business Assets and ensuring the correct Business Manager is listed.

5. Check Pixel or Data Source Issues

  • Sometimes, this error is related to mismatched Pixels or data sources linked to the catalog.
    • Go to Data Sources > Pixels in Business Settings and ensure the Pixel connected to the catalog is owned by the correct Business Manager.
    • Adjust permissions if needed to align the Pixel and catalog.

Example Scenario

If you’re trying to set up Instagram Shopping and the catalog is owned by another Business Manager, request admin access to the catalog. After access is granted, verify the account connection in Commerce Manager to ensure there are no mismatched businesses.

Let me know if you’re still stuck or need more help setting up your catalog or troubleshooting any related errors.

Best regards,
Daisy

Hey there, this message usually pops up when another business account owns your catalog. However, you can try to request a transfer of ownership.

To resolve this quickly and request a catalog transfer, you must have full control of your business account and be assigned as a partner with permission to manage the catalog. The transfer can't be requested if the catalog is used for collaborative ads or selling on Facebook/Instagram Shops.

Now let’s see how you can fix this:

  • Navigate to Business settings.
  • Choose Data sources and then select Catalogues.
  • Pick the catalog you want to claim ownership of.
  • Click on Claim, then click Claim again to confirm. Keep in mind that the Claim option is available only if you have full control of the business account, and you must meet all requirements to submit the request.
  • The owner of the catalog will be notified of your request and can approve or decline it.
  • You can track the progress of your request in the Requests section under Business Settings.
  • A notification will be sent to you in Business Manager once the owning business provides a response.

If accepted, the catalog is transferred to your business, and the previous owner is added as a partner with managed access (you can remove their access).

If denied, the ownership remains unchanged.

Take this for an example:

Let's say a partner business controls your catalog, and you no longer work with them. You can ask them to transfer the catalog to your account as long as they agree.

I hope this helps! 😄
