Google Ads/ Merchant - Problem "missing identifiers you need to add a MPN"

120 products are under warning in Shopify store, I cannot run a Google Ad via my Google Merchant Store until I have resolved these issues. All of my products are handmade, custom products they are unique and I am essentially the manufacturer. My understanding is I have limited performance due to missing identifiers mainly MPN. I make my products e.g. cushions/throw pillows, so technically I wouldn't be able to source an MPN for each of my products.

Please can someone help me to resolve this MPN identifier issue, so that I can successfully run my Google Ads?

Hi June

Yo will need to appeal on your merchant account but before then, do the following:

For your handmade and custom products, where you're the manufacturer, you can address the MPN (Manufacturer Part Number) issue by using a few strategies in Google Merchant Center.

Here’s what you can do:

 1. Set Identifier Exists to False

Since your products are custom and unique, they don't have typical identifiers like MPN or GTIN (Global Trade Item Number).

In this case, you can set the `identifier_exists` attribute to **false**. This tells Google that your products don’t have these identifiers.

Here's how you can do this:

In your product feed, find the `identifier_exists` field and set it to **false** for each product. - If you're using Shopify's Google channel, you can do this via the Google Feed section within the Shopify admin panel, or use an app that manages the Google Merchant feed for better control.

2. Use Your Own MPN

If setting the `identifier_exists` field doesn’t completely solve the issue, you can create your own MPNs.

Since you're the manufacturer, you're allowed to assign your own part numbers. This can be as simple as numbering your products sequentially (e.g., "CUS-001" for a custom cushion).

3. Ensure Other Fields Are Optimized

Product Titles and Descriptions:

Make sure they clearly describe the products, using keywords that will help users find them.

Pricing and Availability:

Ensure that all other information like pricing, availability, and shipping details are accurate and up-to-date.

4. Appeal if Needed

If Google still flags your products despite following these steps, you can appeal through the Google Merchant Center, explaining that your products are custom and don’t have standard identifiers.

Once you've updated the feed with this information, re-upload it, and Google should allow the products to pass through and be used for ads. Would you like help walking through any specific steps in this process?
