SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi everyone,
I have an issue with shopify google ads purchase event snippet.
I did the right shopify procedure ( double-check with an other dev) => Setting up Google Ads conversion tracking
I mean:
- Add the GA ID into the preferences box on the store.
- Add the gtag.js script into the head of theme.liquid.
- Add the 2 scripts ( gtaj.js + snippet) in the settings/checkout/add_script box.
GA works, I can see the conversion.
but Google Ads dashboard not, the purchase conversion failed, I don't understand why.
Do you have any advise ?
thank you very much !
Hello @ricdnt,
This is Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
If you have successfully added the Google Analytics (GA) ID as mentioned in your question but you're still experiencing issues with purchase conversions not being recorded in the Google Ads dashboard, I have a few steps to help you troubleshoot the problem.
1. Double-check your Google Ads conversion settings
Verify that the conversion tracking setup in your Google Ads account is accurate. Ensure that you have selected the correct conversion action and that the settings, such as conversion value and currency, match your requirements.
2. Review your Google Analytics configurations
Check your Google Analytics settings to ensure that the correct view and property are linked to your Google Ads account. Confirm that the GA tracking code is installed correctly and that the data is being collected accurately in Google Analytics.
3. Test the firing of the purchase conversion event
Place a test order on your Shopify store and go through the complete checkout process. Then, check if the conversion event is triggered and recorded in Google Analytics. Use tools like the Google Tag Assistant Chrome extension to verify if the conversion event fires correctly and sends data to Google Analytics.
4. Confirm the data transfer between Google Analytics and Google Ads
Make sure that the data transfer between Google Analytics and Google Ads is enabled. In your Google Ads account, go to the "Linked accounts" section and ensure that your Google Analytics account is linked and the data sharing is turned on.
5. Check for any discrepancies in attribution settings
If you're using different attribution models in Google Ads and Google Analytics, it may lead to differences in the reported conversions. Make sure to compare the data based on the same attribution model to avoid confusion.
6. Allow for data processing and delay
Keep in mind that there might be a delay in data processing between Google Analytics and Google Ads. It may take some time for the conversions to be attributed and appear in the Google Ads dashboard. Wait for at least 24-48 hours to allow for the data to populate.
If you have followed all the necessary steps and given enough time for the data to process, but the issue persists, consider reaching out to Shopify support or Google Ads support for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance and help troubleshoot the problem based on your setup and configuration.
I hope by following these tips, you should be able to identify any potential issues and resolve the problem of purchase conversions not being recorded in the Google Ads dashboard.

Normally it takes 24 hours for google to update the status in Google Ads.
When you go to Google Ads > tools and settings > conversions > when you hover over the conversion action status does it say detected?
If not, what is it saying.
It's possible parts of the code you use is not correct, you can setup a complete code with this guide: https://feedarmy.com/kb/adding-adwords-conversion-tracking-to-shopify/
