SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
I have a very new store, so not many visitors yet. However, my google analytics are not matching my shopify analytics by a wide margin. I suspect the "extra" traffic Shopify is showing are bots that Google recognizes so it doesn't display. Can anyone confirm this? Does everyone get big discrepancies between Shopify and Google? Do you just ignore Shopify's analytics and use the Google Analytics?
Here's shopify:
Here's google:
My guess is most of that "direct" traffic Shopify is showing are bots. Confirm / deny?
Hi Brittany,
Direct traffic may be bots, especially if it makes up the majority of your traffic earlier on.
With that said, there's still things you'll be able to do in your Google Analytics setup to polish it up to help with this clarity. I have a free analytics guide for Shopify that walks you through the steps. The key point I will emphasize for you is to have a Raw Data view that does not remove any bots or contain filters.
Your primary view will have filters on bots, your own visits, and spam, which will present a cleaner picture. Having the two views side-by-side allows for easier diagnosing of analytics problems in GA.
Shopify Analytics is a black box so you just have to take whatever is in there. Work at improving your GA setup.
