SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello, I received this from Shopify in early January. Can you tell me what I am supposed to be doing with this information? Not sure what I am supposed to do here.
Mandatory action required: 30-day notice
To ensure ongoing compliance with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (set by the PCI-SSC), the management of the Google Analytics tag and Meta pixel is moving from Online Store Preferences in the Shopify Admin to apps or custom pixels.
Thanks,
Don
Hi Donjhon,
Here's what you have to do, it's pretty simple:
So it looks like you were managing Google Analytics Tag (GA4) & Meta Pixel through Online Store Preferences in the Shopify admin.
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) version 4.0 is the latest set of guidelines designed to enhance the security of payment card data.
Based on these new guidelines, Shopify made some changes.
Google Analytics Tag will be managed by the Google & Youtube app.
Meta Pixel will be managed by the Facebook & Instagram app.
Merchants must complete the migration by Feb 2, 2025. (I highly suggest reading this article about the whole thing). If you don't migrate before the deadline, you will risk losing data or have a lot of data inconsistencies.
For Google Analytics, download the Google & Youtube app > go to Settings > Google Analytics and add your GA4 Measurement ID > Ensure data is flowing by checking in Google Analytics Realtime Reports.
For Meta Pixel, download the Facebook & Instagram app > Connect your Facebook Business Manager and Meta Pixel > Ensure data sharing settings are enabled in the app > Test event tracking using Meta's Event Manager to confirm the pixel is firing correctly.
(I recommend using a different app for the Meta Pixel as the fb & ig app has a lot of issues being reported by users. You can try Meta / Facebook Pixel by Nabu. It's completely free and is an app specifically designed for meta pixel and essentially takes care of the coding work for you. You can create new pixels, get analytics, bypass iOs 14+ restrictions, etc).

Hi donjhon,
Thanks for your query.
Shopify is requiring store owners to move the management of Google Analytics tags and Meta pixels from the Online Store Preferences section in the Shopify Admin to dedicated apps or custom pixels.
If you are already using Google and YouTube, then no worries about it.
or
You can consider Google Tag Manager GTM to secure the tracking accuracy.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Hello J and Sanjnalal,
I am currently using Google and YouTube. Are you saying I don't need to do anything? I did find my G4 measurement ID in Google analytics, and at the bottom of the page it says "Data flowing." But When I try to follow the instructions above, Google analytics doesn't show up for me in "Settings."
Thanks for the help.
Hi Donjhon,
I guess then you should know if you set up Google analytics in the google & youtube app? If you haven't, then what you're seeing is from your previous connection from the online store preferences.
Check the google & youtube app to see if you have a GA4 connection:

Hi Don @donjhon , after receiving this notice, what you need to do is to migrate your Google Analytics and Meta Pixel tags from the "Online Store Preferences" in the Shopify backend to the application or custom pixel.
The specific steps are as follows:
If you are not sure how to do it, Shopify also has some guidance articles and support teams to help you complete the migration. I hope this information is helpful to you!
