SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello,
I am still pretty new to this, having relied on Etsy and Ebay for the past 15 years.
I am not sure I understand how the Google "Free product listings" works. I am working to get all my items in my shop (www.coxretros.com) approved, but meanwhile I have been looking at google shopping for similar items. I don't see mine and that's okay because I don't think I have all my settings right. However, I don't seem to see listings for any shops other than those on Etsy, Ebay, Mercari, Poshmark, and other large names, including big box stores. I would think that I should be able to find other shop names, some of which are for Shopify shops. I don't think that my shop is the only Shopify shop that sells vintage items. So, where DO the "free product listings" show on google?
Thanks!
Dave

This is an accepted solution.
As with Google Search, Google Free Shopping Listings are based on ranking.
You need to work hard to get listed at the top. If it was easy, everyone would be rich, but the reality is not the case.
With clients I manage, I constantly have to go the extra mile to get the best out of their advertising. This then also generates some free conversions from the free listings.
As of writing the only section that Google shows free listings is on the shopping tab, underneath the paid ads.
Make sure you are eligible for enhanced listings. Check your Google Merchant Center dashboard and go to the graph panel free listings. Check if its lite green. If its dark green you are not eligible.
Also remember that clicks from free listings is very very low, so don't expect much from this.
Hi, Emmanuel,
Thank you for the reply.
I am not so concerned about my items right now. It's just that nowhere on Google Shopping do I see any items sold by an independent merchant, such as those of us who might be using Shopify. I see Macy's; Poshmark; Bed, Bath & Beyond; Etsy, Target, eBay, etc. I don't see anything like, "Betty's Best Vintage," for example. So my question is now, for free and for paid listings on Google, where do they show?
If I saw independent shops like "Betty's Best Vintage" or similar, then I'd be more inclined to work on getting my shop ready for Google advertising. But as it stands right now, it seems like it's pointless because the only shops listed are the big names.
Thanks!
Dave
Shopping ads show on:
Ads or free listings are based on many factors, so if you want to find a specific merchant, type the merchant name. If you want to do competitor research, use something like spyfu or semrush.
Hi,
Thanks again for the reply. Yes, that does help clarify a little better. I'm just curious how the average Joe or Jane who uses Google Shopping would be able to see an item from an independent store. While not exactly trying to scope out the competition, I did a search for "Corning Ware Blue Dusk" (this isn't a super common pattern) and all I see are big name outlets (including my own Etsy ad) but just one independent. It just seems pointless to work on getting my Shopify items ready for Google when they just won't be seen by anyone because Ebay, Etsy, Poshmark, and Mercari (and others) overwhelm the listings.
Thanks!
Dave

Hi,
Thanks again for the explanation. I was thinking that that might be the case...
Thanks!
