SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi , I changed my website to Shopify half year ago and use theme from themeforest . I have submitted my Shopify sitemap to Google search console four days ago. Google discovers 270 pages near immediately, but still not indexing any pages yet.
my website: https://rippleswirework.com/
I have few questions:
1. Why Google search console still not indexing pages? is there any issue?
2. Is it correct that I put the verification code under { capture metaTags } ? Or I must put the verification code under <head> ? I added the code under <head> again in this morning.... is it okay if the verification code appear twice?
3. Google search console shows 47 pages are not indexed, and the main reason is NOT FOUND (404). most of the example links is the links from my OLD website ( before I change to use Shopify)
what should I do ?
enclosed some screenshoot, thanks!!
Hello @ripples2020,
This is Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $5Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.
A website's pages should be indexed on Google to ensure that they appear in search engine results pages (SERPs) and can be easily found by potential visitors or customers. If a website's pages are not indexed, they will not appear in search results, which means that potential visitors may not be able to find the website. This can have a negative impact on the website's traffic and visibility, which can ultimately affect its success.
Here are my answers to your questions.
1. It's not uncommon for Google to take several days or even weeks to index new pages, so it's possible that the delay is simply due to the normal indexing process. However, there could be other issues that are preventing Google from indexing your pages, such as technical errors or duplicate content. One way to check if there are any issues is to use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console to see if there are any errors or warnings for your pages. You can also check your robots.txt file and make sure it's not blocking Google from crawling your pages.
2. The verification code should ideally be placed within the <head> section of your website's HTML code. You can remove the code from { capture metaTags } and place it directly in the <head> section. It's not recommended to have the verification code appear twice, as this can cause confusion and may affect your website's performance.
3. If Google is reporting 404 errors for pages that are no longer on your website, it's important to redirect those pages to the most relevant pages on your new website. This can be done using 301 redirects in your Shopify store. You can also use the Remove URLs tool in Google Search Console to request that Google remove any outdated or irrelevant pages from its index. Additionally, make sure that your sitemap only includes URLs for pages that are currently live on your website.
Hope this helps
