Google Merchant Impressions Drop

Hello everyone, I have 3 questions:

  1. I am experiencing a drop in impressions over the last 2 days. Normally, I get around 4,000 impressions, but in the last 2 days, it has barely reached 1,950. My products are disappearing from the Google Search "Popular products" field from 11 PM until 1 PM the next day. Can someone explain what might be happening? Could this be somehow related to the recent update in Google’s Site Reputation Abuse policy?

  2. Over the last 7 days, I’ve been adding product data to all my listings, such as weight, country of origin, etc. I sell shirts, and in the product descriptions, I’ve mentioned the weight as 5.3oz. However, when I added the information through bulk editing, I applied the same 5.3oz weight to all sizes, from S to 5XL. Could this inconsistency be causing the impressions limitation because Google may recognize that all sizes cannot have the same weight?

  3. When I search for my products on Google, I notice that some products appear in the "Popular products" field even though they are not added to Google Merchant. Why is this happening?

Thank you!

1) That needs analyzing, if you want an explenation, as you can imagine, there can be 100's of reasons, which one applies to you is hard to do without looking at everything in detail. Even then, there is a chance it is unknown.

I recommend you check if anything changed in the data feed, a single change can cause big changes. Even if it's a small change.

Check if your competitors have started bidding more aggresively.

2) Submitting in accurate data is never a good idea. If you don't have accurate info, don't submit it.

3) Check in Google Merchant Center > cog icon > data sources, maybe you have google automated imports enabled.

  1. I have almost 50 competitors, so it's not a bidding issue. I use Free Listings, and I experienced the same limitations back in May. I discovered that if I go to the Google Feed app and filter only the products listed in Google Merchant, then click "bulk edit" for those products. This opens additional fields such as Google Gender, Google Color, and Google Age Group. After filling in these fields, the limitations were lifted.
  2. I'll reset the weight of my products to 0. Let's see what happens.
  3. I'm not sure how to check it because I'm a beginner at this. Also, my English isn't very good, so I'm worried I might break something. I used ChatGPT to help fix the grammar in this post.
