Google Product Categories

 Hi All,

I recently added the Google Sales Channel to our website (www.multi-sensoryworld.co.uk), and successfully linked the Merchant Centre and Google Ads.

I have left google to automatically add a category to the products, which I think is clearly a mistake and want to evaluate how many of the products have been categorised wrong.

My questions:

1) Where can I get a full list of my products, and how google has currently categorised them? I have looked on Shopify and Merchant, but cant see where I can pull this report/export.

2) Aside from using the product bulk editor and refining the code, is there an easier way that I am missing?

3) When adding the products (over 400 and at least 800 variants), what purpose is the Shopify Standard Taxonomy, if they are not mapped to Googles?

Thanks for your assistance.

Mike

This is an accepted solution.

1) If you let Google do the automation, the only way to see the value is by going to Google Merchant Center > Products > all products > click on the product > at the top.

There is no bulk way to export or view.

2) You can use supplement feeds or feed rules to assign categories. If you have a product type value in Shopify. You can easily setup rules in Google Merchant Center.

For example: If product type equals sweatshirt, set to: Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Shirts & Tops

Ofcourse you can also assign the categories in Shopify under the products > more actions > google attributes. But this would be a bit slower than my feed rule suggestion.

3) Google does not use standard taxonomy, however, if you are talking about the product type and you are using the free basic shopping app, then this should be submitted to Google Merchant Center, which you can then use to setup feed rules.
