SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi
So we launched a Smart Shopping campaign about a fortnight ago. We've been doing reasonably OK, but haven't seen a gradual improvement in conversions or CPC yet.
Previously we had an agency run standard Google Ads, but let them go. They did install Google Analytics to Shopify Preferences page as per below.
It is being picked up OK by Google Ads Conversions (Transactions -All website data row).
However, we were advised by someone locally that we still needed to generate a global tag to install into the theme.liquid and a conversion tag into the checkout page. We've done that (although I'm not sure they're correct - that's another question!)
That's the second tag "purchase value" highlighted in yellow. It appears to be unverified, and has been for over 2 weeks not tracking any conversions.
Q1. Do we need this Tag, or is Google Analytics sufficient for Smart Shopping's AI learning?
Q2. If the new tag is necessary - is there something obviously wrong with the conversion tag code below?
Thanks in advance!

This is an accepted solution.
If you want to use Google Ads tag (recommended), make sure you remove the Google Analytics one, as otherwise your tracking double.
Why Google Ads? Because it will track all conversions that had a click at any point of the path leading up to a sale. While Google Analytics does not, there are certain situations when this does not happen.
Therefor Google Ads is recommended.
You need to install all codes, you have excluded the global tag.
If you want an advanced conversion template: https://feedarmy.com/kb/adding-adwords-conversion-tracking-to-shopify/

Thanks for the reply!!
Another daft question probably... say I do remove Google Analytics from the site, do I then lose all analytics for channels other than Google Ads?
Not sure what you mean, but conversion tracking, only refers to the tracking of a conversion, nothing else.
Sorry, I wasn't clear (probably because i'm way out of my comfort zone!)
I currently use Google Analytics to track impressions, clicks, CTR, demographics, conversions etc for all our sales channels eg. Google Ads, direct clicks, social media ads etc. If I removed it from here in Shopify-
will I still be able to track the data for all those channels?
Do not remove the Google Analytics tracking.
Only remove the Google Ads conversion action that is imported from Google Analytics.
If you are unsure what needs to be done, best to not make any changes.
Ahh I think I understand now!
What you meant was to overwrite what I had here in the checkout page-
with
?
correct
Brilliant!! Thank you so much. You heped fix a problem that Google, Shopify nor anyone else i reached out to could!
