In My Shopify Store admin dashboard, it is showing the site speed is 1.84 seconds but When I check the speed on the Web Performance on Tools like Gtmetrix and Google Pagespeed Insight it is showing very poor performance.

I want to know which one is accurate and if the Google Pagespeed insight and gtmetrix performance are incorrect is there any way to increase it because in Shopify most of the files are served using CDN and 3rd party server so there is no way to access them .htaccess file for speed optimization.

Loading Speed in Shopify is the LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) score in PageSpeed Insight. PageSpeed Insight is tested in a 3G network test environment (https://prnt.sc/F4zxiMVGi7x6), so there will be certain differences. The LCP score in PageSpeed Insight is calculated in the Popup (https://prnt.sc/KQHYZrCQ50zF) and the Loading Speed score will be calculated in the banner so it will be different in terms of loading time.

Hi,

The discrepancy you're experiencing between the speed reported in your Shopify admin dashboard (1.84 seconds) and the results from GTmetrix and Google PageSpeed Insights can be confusing. Here’s how to understand the differences and what you can do to improve your site's performance:

After analyzing your website using Google PageSpeed Insights, [link to insights analysis], I’ve identified several performance issues that can be addressed to improve your site’s loading speed and overall user experience. Here are the issues along with recommendations for resolving them:

1. Avoid Large Layout Shifts (3 Layout Shifts Found):

Issue: Layout shifts occur when elements on the page move unexpectedly during loading, negatively affecting user experience. Solution: To prevent this, ensure that all images, videos, and other content with dynamic sizes have defined width and height attributes in the HTML. This helps the browser allocate space in advance and prevents content shifting during load.

2. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) Element Taking 19,740 ms:

Issue: LCP measures how long it takes for the largest visible element on the screen (usually an image or text) to load. A slow LCP indicates that your site is taking too long to render content above the fold. Solution: Consider optimizing the following:

  • Compress large images using modern formats like WebP.
  • Ensure that images are properly sized for display on mobile and desktop.
  • Lazy load non-critical images and videos.
  • Minimize JavaScript and CSS that could block page rendering.

3. Reduce Unused JavaScript (Potential Savings of 211 KiB):

Issue: Unused JavaScript is slowing down the page load. Solution:

  • Use tools like Webpack or Parcel to bundle and tree-shake your JavaScript, ensuring only the required code is loaded.
  • Consider deferring or asynchronously loading non-critical JavaScript that doesn't need to run immediately.

4. Reduce Unused CSS (Potential Savings of 30 KiB):

Issue: Unused CSS adds unnecessary weight to your pages. Solution:

  • Use tools like PurgeCSS to remove unused CSS from your stylesheets.
  • Minimize CSS files and ensure that only the styles needed for the page are loaded. Consider critical CSS for above-the-fold content.
