Google Tag Manager Conversion Tracking Shopify Basic

Google Tag Manager Conversion Tracking Shopify Basic

Hi everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to setup conversion tracking using google tag manager on a shopify basic site. I have the google tag manager code installed and working fine in theme.liquid. However, I'm not sure how to track when a customer makes a purchase? I understand I can't modify the checkout page in shopify basic. I'm wondering what my options are?

Is there an app I can use, or a way to ensure the code is installed in the order confirmation page, or something else?

I'm trying to setup conversion tracking/pixels across half a dozen ad providers.  Not sure on the best approach here?

Hi there,

So there are two way's to fix this. 1 is to add the Google Tag Manager to the checkout by simply going to Settings > Checkout > Additional scripts. This is the easy none technical way.

The second option is to add your GTM as a custom pixel. Instructions on how to do that you can find here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/pixels/custom-pixels/gtm-tutorial

Hope this helps!

Hello ThomKnepper, your answer helped me a lot

I have another question to ask you. I have installed the GTM custom pixel code according to the help document, and I am sure it is installed correctly. However, there is a problem. When I use the tag assistant website to debug GTM, it says that GTM cannot be found. container code.QQ截图20240201103223.jpg

Hi,

Which method did you use? The first or the second? If its the first, that would be weird. Maybe an adblocker is annoying you. If its the second, please ensure you publish the pixel and wait for the data to come in. As I don't think the debugger works on that version.

Thank you Thom! I used the second method. Now I know that the debugger is not suitable for this version.😀

Hi @zubaplants

I recommend that you give the app OnePixel a try.

You'd need no code. Also, if you just want to add one pixel (conversion tracking pixel) to your website, it's free.

I hope that this helps!
