SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi guys
I've been running Meta ads for almost a year now with good success. I've just entered into the world of Google Ads, and with quite a small investment, I've seen a noticeable increase in revenue. However, it appears I've set up my Google Tags Manager wrong, as none of my conversions are being tracked. I tested this too, which confirmed. I got in touch with Google (difficult task) who told me this:
"
I have checked the landing page and the tags on your website are not implemented properly via Google Tag Manager. Google Tag Manager Tag should be placed immediately after the opening <body> tag and not inside any other HTML element. The Google Tag Manager snippet must be placed directly in the page that you intend on tracking. Placing it in a hidden iframe or deploying it within another tag management system may prevent certain tags from accurately tracking the parent page. Tags added via Google Tag Manager may not fire. Please ensure to place the Tag Manager snippet immediately after the opening <body> tag.
To implement the tags properly on a website, please contact your web developer as it is related to the source code of your website and we are not expertise in coding."
I am hoping someone here can recommend a good, trusted Wed Developer who can install and debug this for me?
Thank you in advance!

Hi joshuasamuels,
Thanks for your query. Could you please share your website URL? I would love to check.
As you want to track the e-commerce events/purchase journey for your Google Ads you choose the best option Google Tag Manager GTM.
Placing GTM on the head section of the theme file will only count the user engagement and page views.
Before tracking e-commerce events, the pre-condition is having a Google-recommended GTM data layer for dynamic value tracking. LIke order value, currency, order ID, tax, shipping, coupon and so on.
Ref : https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/tag-manager/datalayer
Once you place the Data layer you can create tags (view item, checkout, purchase) for the events performed by the visitors. That is why support said "I have checked the landing page and the tags on your website are not implemented properly via Google Tag Manager."
So There are 2 data layer
1. Macro conversion(purchase)
2. Micro conversions(view item, add to cart, checkout,)
An event tag consists of 3 things (tag, trigger, and variable). When you have a data layer you can successfully track the micro and macro conversions through Google Tag Manager.
Tag for specific platforms, variables for value tracking dynamically, and trigger for specific event tracking.
So where to place the data layer?
1. creating a snippet in the online store theme file. for micro conversions
2. purchase data layer in customer event custom pixel
I attached some images of how it works. If you feel anything does not make sense feel free to ask.
To implement these, you don't need to hire a web developer. It is related to conversion Tracking experts.
I did this for many of my clients to track the purchase through Google Tag Manager GTM.
If you want to discuss more about Google Tag Manager GTM and Google ads conversion Tracking don't hesitate to send me a PM.
Thanks
Sam this is so amazing I will start implementing now! Thank you so much for your help you're a star!
