Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a domain that was previously listed for sale on Sedo. I’ve now built a fully live Shopify website on it.
However, Google is not indexing my homepage, and in Google Search Console it shows:
"Duplicate, Google chose different canonical"
The canonical being picked is still:
https://sedo.com/us/services/broker-service/
Here’s what I’ve already done:
- Set the canonical tag on homepage correctly
- Submitted sitemap and robots.txt in Google Search Console
- Requested indexing multiple times
- Used Google's "Remove Outdated Content" tool for the Sedo link, but it was denied
- Sedo no longer lists the domain
But even after all this, Google still shows the old Sedo page as the canonical, and my Shopify homepage is not getting indexed.
Has anyone else faced this issue after buying a Sedo domain?
Any advice on how to get Google to drop the old canonical and re-index the actual Shopify homepage?
Appreciate any help or suggestions!
what is domain ?
looks like you didnt setup fully the dns settings (for example cname was not set)
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains/connect-domain-manual
Thanks for checking!
I’ve just double-checked everything — my DNS settings are fully configured:
I have 7 CNAME records in place (including the one for www pointing to shops.myshopify.com)
The A record is correctly pointing to Shopify’s IP address.
The domain is showing as “Connected” in Shopify without issues, and SSL is active too.
Also, the live site is accessible via both www and non-www, and I’ve already set the preferred version to non-www with a proper canonical tag:
<link rel="canonical" href="https://restorationandrenovation.com/" />
Still, Google is picking the old Sedo URL as the canonical for my homepage. Any suggestions beyond DNS that could help push Google to re-index my actual homepage?
Appreciate any help!
i see it now. make sure you
1. connect google search console and connect your sitemap.xml
2. get a few links to your site and within days google should list your correct pages
@Raj_Yadav Concerning this situation, it is better for you to check this issue via ways below:
1. Double check if your web pages contain no-index codes on the backend and prevent Google from indexing your page updates properly.
2. Give Google some time and see if the content will be updated, as Google has its own frequency to index and update page contents.
3. Submit the sitemap in Google Search Console properly and see the index status after several days to check if succeeded.
You can also share more error screenshots in Google Search Console if this issue still persists, and I'm willing to have a look for you in a further way. Thank you!
