How can I control the SERP meta description for my store's collection page?

How can I control the SERP meta description for my store's collection page?

Hello Shopify experts,

My on-page SEO tool reports a mismatch between our store's meta description and the SERP meta description, but I'm confused by this report.

First of all, how do we control the meta description? The meta used on the script is not what we use in the Search engine listing preview section of the collection page. How do I get the SERP to use the meta we provide?

The SERP meta description also promises Free Shipping, Cash on Delivery, and Best Offers, and these promises are misleading. They are definitely not aligned with our business practices. So how do I remove these false promises from the SERP meta description?

Thanks.

AK

Hey AK,

I've come across this before from Shopify. If you still need some help, I'm
a partner at a dev studio called, DevPort, if you'd like to talk further
about it.

Edit the title and meta description for a page

The title tag and meta description are two of the most important elements
of SEO. They are shown in search engine results, and provide information to
people who are looking for things related to your products. A good title
and description encourages customers to click the link in search results to
visit your store.

You can also set a title and description for your online store

.
Steps:

1.

In the *Search engine listing preview* section, click *Edit website SEO*.
2.

In the *Page title* field, enter a descriptive title. This title is
shown as a link in search engine results. You can enter up to 70 characters
in the title. Learn more about page titles

.
3.

Enter a description for the search engine listing. Make sure to include
relevant keywords to help new customers find your link, and to include your
store name. Use natural, readable phrases, rather than lists of keywords.
You can enter up to 320 characters in the description. Learn more about meta
descriptions

.

Best,

Hi @phgkb8 ,

I'm aware of the Search engine listing preview fields. I have added text to them. But the issue is that Google seems to be creating its own meta description, which is different from what I put in the  Search engine listing preview fields.

Please look at these three screen shots. They show the title and meta description I have entered, the Semrush report of this error, and the meta description that appears in our actual search results.

Google is definitely overriding the meta description I have provided. How do I fix that?

Thanks.
