SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
I have got a few emails from Google Analytics team. They recommend we use gtag instead of analytics.js for e-commerce tracking. But we can only put user-id in Online => Preferences. Actually,it supports adding enhanced script, but Trekkie lib always loads analytics.js instead of gtag.js.
Does anyone know how to force to use gtag.js for GA? Thanks!
You first have to decide whether you want to move away from Shopify's native Google Analytics integration. If you do, you'll either need a custom analytics setup or use a third-party solution like LittleData.
Given that Google is emailing us to do this, shouldn't Shopify move to support it?
@mikehix I think Shopify should upgrade the lib, there are many changes on trackers & hit types. I have not checked LittleData yet, but I believe it's very hard for 3rd apps to support those in the checkout funnel (basic plan) @Josh_Uebergang
Yes, I'd love if Shopify upgraded as well. I have heard merchants request it and wanted it myself ever since its release, which might be about 3 years ago. An optional upgrade would have to be implemented given it renders past hits useless like event tracking. I have been able to get some information about Google Analytics in Shopify from a member managing Shopify's internal GA several years ago, but have no bites about gtag.
Any updates on this?
