Hey @TandemCottage,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some guidance on setting up taxes and duties. This can be achieved through Shopify Markets, which allows you to sell cross-boarder to countries like Canada and the United States.
To set this up, you can refer to our Managing Markets helpdoc which outlines the following:
Click Add Market.
Enter a Market name. This name helps you identify the market within your Shopify admin, and isn't displayed to customers.
Click Add countries/regions.
Add the countries and regions that you want to include in this market.
Click Done, and then Save.
Once completed, you will then have the ability to set up duties and import taxes. This can be completed under Settings > Taxes and Duties, but can check out this Collecting International Duties and Import Taxes for more information. There are a few requirements in order to successfully achieve this, which include:
If you are not meeting these requirements, not to worry as you can still utilize Shopify Markets but will need require the addition of an app from our Shopify App Store. This will allow you to calculate duties and import taxes as needed. For more information on this, you can check out our helpdoc and have gone ahead and listed below a few apps you can check out:
