how to get the keyword density right?

I have been working to improve my seo - I've updated titles and urls and am working on descriptions and alt tags. But when I test the pages with various online tools, my chosen keyword phrase is always coming back less often than generic terms like cad, price, price cad, regular price, regular price cad, ...as well keywords from other products - from navigation I guess, like cats, dogs, bicycles, bikes, shop, shipping.

How do I compete with these words without some serious keyword stuffing?

For reference, this is a page that I am testing:

thanks for any help!

This is an accepted solution.

No worries Smeelah, glad I can be of assistance.

Your product description is about 284 words which means a 1-3% density would be about 2-8 times.  Having it in there somewhere about 3-5 times would be appropriate and you wouldn't need to worry about anything.

An example of keyword stuffing would be the following:

"Mountain Necklace - an attractive mountain necklace which is made of colorful glass pendant. This mountain necklace has an illustration of a mountain range.

This mountain necklace is a fun way to show your love of mountains and this mountain necklace is a thoughtful gift for the nature and adventure lovers in your live who love mountain necklaces as well"

Hi Smeelah,

Based on your product page and your H1, you are targeting Mountain Necklace. Typically, 1-3% keyword density is what you would want per page and right now based on your webpage, the density is as follows as illustrated below:

What I would suggest is using the word Mountain Necklace a little bit more together as well.

Thanks for your help, Gary. Your chart is more complimentary to my keywords than some that I have seen!

I've edited the description to have one more 'mountain necklace' phrase. What do you think is the max that I should have? I also have the phrase in one alt tag. I am using 'necklace' and 'mountain/s' a few times independently. I could change the wording to create the phrase a 3rd time but I don't want to go too far.

As an example, let’s say you write an article that’s 1500 words long and uses your key phrase 20 times. Your keyword density formula looks like this:20/1500= .013 x 100 = 1.3%

In this case, your keyword density is 1.3%.

Basically, if you stay between 3% then you are in the correct direction.
