I’m experiencing multiple issues with Shopify emails and need your assistance:

  1. Password Reset Emails:

    • Customers are not receiving password reset emails.
    • Spam/junk folders have been checked, but the emails don’t seem to be delivered at all.
    • When they attempt to resend the request, they receive a “too many redemptions” error.
  2. Promotional Emails Marked as Spam:

    • The promotional emails I send, including discount codes, are being flagged as spam.
  3. Excessive Spam on Contact Email:

    • My contact email listed on the shop is receiving an unusually high number of spam messages.

Halo Ozdenel,

Shopify emails acting weird? Yep, been there. Let’s get this sorted.

1. Password Reset Emails, Where Did They Go?

If customers aren’t receiving password reset emails, a few things could be happening:

  • Email queue delays. Shopify doesn’t always send these instantly, especially during high-traffic times. Ask customers to wait a few minutes before trying again.
  • Email providers blocking Shopify’s emails. Outlook, Yahoo, and sometimes even Gmail can be picky. If customers are using these, ask them to check their spam folder or try a different email.
  • Too many reset attempts. Shopify has a built-in cooldown if someone keeps spamming the reset button. If they get a “too many redemptions” error, they should wait 15–30 minutes before trying again.
  • Email settings check. Go to Settings > Notifications in Shopify and make sure password reset emails are actually enabled.

If nothing works, Shopify Support can check if emails are getting blocked from their end.

2. Promotional Emails,  Why Is Everything Spam?

If your promo emails are going straight to spam, welcome to the club. Here’s how to fight back:

  • Ditch free email providers. If you're sending from a Gmail or Yahoo address, it's practically an invitation for spam filters. Use a branded email like hello@yourstore.com instead.
  • Authenticate your emails. Sounds fancy, but all it means is setting up SPF & DKIM records in your domain settings. This tells email providers, “Yes, these emails are legit.”
  • Tone down the spammy vibes. Emails shouting “BUY NOW! FREE! 90% OFF!!!” in all caps will get flagged. Keep it natural and conversational.
  • Test before sending. Websites like Mail-Tester.com will check if your emails look too much like spam.

3. Contact Email Is a Spam Magnet, What Now?

If your inbox is drowning in junk, spambots are probably scraping your website. Try this:

  • Stop displaying your email in plain text. If your email is sitting on your website for all to see, bots will find it. Use a contact form instead.
  • Turn on Google reCAPTCHA. Shopify supports this, and it helps filter out automated junk.
  • Use a separate email for contact forms. Something like contact@yourstore.com that forwards to your main inbox will keep your real business email clean.
  • Check your spam filtering settings. Some email providers let you tweak how aggressive the filters are.

Try these fixes and see if things improve. If Shopify’s email gremlins are still at work, their support team might need to take a look.
