Hello Everyone!

I have an odd feeling that this was asked in previous years.  What are some of the best ways to generate traffic to an adult oriented store?

So far:

1) I have an online facebook group which i promote heavily in

2) Update Instagram daily

3) Have a facebook business page

4) Attempt to collect emails through in person events (vendor)

5) Given free products to a few people with the promise of word of mouth

Any help would be appreciated! 🙂

Hey there, @Jay0989

Bo here from Shopify Support!

Great question. One of the best ways to garner organic traffic is through healthy SEO. It is important to have your own description for each and every product. Online stores do not have sales reps there to help sell the products, the products must sell themselves and so they must be named and described effectively. I recommend taking a look at Oberlo's guide on writing a product description that sells here. This will also help you improve your SEO which will bring more traffic to your store organically.

I understand that it is more difficult to market an adult store, rest assured there are some steps we can take to improve on this for you. I wanted to share this awesome store. Similarly to your store, this store sells adult toys and would have come across some of the same possible difficulties with online advertising. I would highly recommend checking out how this merchant utilizes their blog to project her brand's voice. I understand that as a business owner you are super busy, and I know how difficult it can be to consistently produce high-quality content but it really does help with conversions, creating repeat visitors and SEO in general. I did this really awesome free course from HubSpot which covers everything you need to know about content marketing.

If you take a look at their social media also you will see how they use their Instagram stories and highlights to show off new products and connect with customers. While advertising and posting may be limited with Instagram, that is not to say that it isn't a tool that you can utilize when done creatively. Take a look at their Instagram and how they use stories, highlights, and hashtags to garner a bigger audience.

I wanted to share this guide on marketing with Twitter. Twitter can be a really powerful tool when used correctly. With Twitter, there is absolutely no censorship so you are free to post any kind of content that you like which really opens your options.

As far as social media marketing channels go, Instagram has been a major power player for a while. And that's particularly true for e-commerce businesses who get access to a visual-focused platform with enthusiastic followers and high engagement.

Amy Landino goes through the essentials of a launch here. When it comes to having a presence on any social network it is really important to know the purpose of you being there in the first place. Is it a place to show your customers a "behind the scenes" view of your business? Is it to engage with customers and pique their interest? Or perhaps you just want to promote your products. Once you have that figured out you can proceed in gathering the images that you want to show. It is recommended that when launching an Instagram for a business that you have at least 9 images to go. When a user lands on an Instagram account they want to have content to view, and because Instagram shows your posts in a grid, having 9 images is the perfect starting point. Amy has another great video on getting started with Instagram Marketing which you can check out here.

All the Best,

Bo
