SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi community, I´d like to know your opinion on this old idea for customer acquisition and engagement. The idea is that every let´s say hundredth or thousandth client gets something for free or an attractive discount on his purchase. The client learns that he is the winner after the purchase and he gets very positively surprised. This shall motivate people to make a purchase, since everybody will hope that he will have luck this time. What do you think, will this bring me more clients and will they be motivated to buy more often? Would you implement such idea in your business? What are the pros and cons in your opinion?

I tried to look it up on Google and couldn't find any results (I think I just didn't try hard enough).
Pro: It's easy enough to test if you want to try it out!
Con: I, personally, wouldn't be motivated by it. But I also don't play the lotto 😉
If you can't find any stats/examples from a thorough Google search, it's likely because marketers have tried it and it didn't work. But, again, it's easy enough to test out!
One alternative, that has some similarities as is definitely common: Try out one of the spinning wheel apps/tools out there. They usually collect e-mail addresses in exchange for a discount/free shipping/etc on a wheel. AndrewWalters thank you for your feedback. I also wouldn´t be motivated by it, but I believe there are people who would be motivated. So it should definitely work for some people, and therefore it is worth a try. But obviously very few businesses (if any) practice something like that. And there must be a reason for it, which i´m trying to understand. Probably this reason is that these spinning wheels give better results comparing to discount for every xth client... Thanks for that idea.
Yeah, it's important to be aware how we're different from an average shopper! It could definitely be worth a try, esp if it doesn't take much work on your part!
I think the spinning wheels are a lower "ask" for a shopper. They only have to submit their e-mail, not make a purchase. But sometimes, going for the big ask (buy vs mailing list) can pay off, and it's not either-or, so you can try out both.
