I keep trying to create Meta ads for my Shopify store but one error won't let me publish my campaigns:
You should use application ids for conversion/tracking specs.: Please use the application id and not another way of referencing to the application like the url. (#1634031) More
Does anyone know how to get past this?
@Gen_Ans Resolve this error and publish your Meta ads for your Shopify store, ensure that you are using the correct application ID for conversion/tracking specifications. Double-check that you're not referencing the application via URL but using the application ID instead. This should help you bypass the error (#1634031) and successfully publish your campaigns.
Could you please attach a photo of the unput fields you are referring to with a test ID coz I am trying to see where to put it and I can't figure out exactly where its needed.
what kind of answer is this??
i am also having same issue, i am adveritising my product catalogue from shopify and same error appears in facebook ads!!!!
give a detailed answer please with images because the solution seems impossible without the developers, it is a technical issue.
See my post above.
Hey there!
Firstly, head over to the Facebook Developer Portal and pick out your app from the provided list. Once you've selected your app, navigate to its dashboard, where you'll easily spot the App ID displayed at the top of the webpage.
Next, make sure to update your tracking specifications. In any instance where you're setting up conversion tracking or specifying your app in Facebook Ads Manager or through the API, ensure to replace any URL or non-standard reference with the App ID.
For example, if you previously had something like 'fbq('track', 'Purchase', {content_ids: ['your-app-url']})', now it should be corrected to 'fbq('track', 'Purchase', {content_ids: ['your-app-id']})'.
On Meta Ads Manager, edit the conversion tracking section. If you are using Facebook Pixel or Conversions API, update your tracking scripts to use the App ID.
Hope this helps 🙂

Hi Masoomi
The issue here is that we have not created an app. We have simply connected our Shopify store catalogue and would like to run catalogue ads. In the Destination>App section it shows that I have no apps available. I am sending people to my store URL and not to any app.
Can you please tell me where the app reference is coming from and what I need to do to resolve this?
I found a workaround. Take a look at my other post on this thread.
If you are using the "ad campaign offer" from the Facebook and Instagram sales channel on Shopify, there is something wrong with the way it creates that ad set.
I think I found a work around.
Once your Shopify catalog is synced with Meta, go into the Commerce Manager. On the left, select your Shopify Product Catalog from the dropdown and then under Catalog, click Items. There is a button along the top that says "Advertise Set". This will create an ad campaign for your entire product catalog (the same as before) but will have all the correct options to actually allow you to publish the ads.
I've screenshot the differences I saw between the two ad campaigns for future investigation.
The first one is from the Shopify Ad Campaign Offer.
Under "Catalog sales" it doesn't let you change the performance goal or conversion event so this tells me there's a template somewhere that needs to be corrected on Shopify's end.
The second screenshot is after clicking "Advertise Set" in Meta Commerce Manager.
You can see the option under Conversion where the "App" confusion comes into play. Leave it on Website and proceed through the rest of the setup. Ignore my warning message... my "Purchase" conversion event hasn't been verified via pixel yet.
Hope this saves someone else the 5 hours it took me to get this working.
