SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi guys,
I'm working a relatively new site that has a meta description specified in the admin panel but if I do a search in Google the results are showing a different meta description with what seems to be like Shopify instructions? I crawled the site using Screaming Frog and the meta description there is the correct one, same if I inspect the source code. The issue only happens in search results. I also searched for the wrong text in Google and found that a bunch of sites have the same issue. Any thoughts? Recs? Anything helps. Thanks in advance!

Hey, @Rafa-Analytics @lhout69!
Could you let me know which URL you're testing within Google to pull these results? I haven't come across this issue myself, however, with some testing, I can see what I can find out for you.

@Trevor - I'm seeing a merchant with a similar issue. I can email you more details outside of this thread.
Are you a staff member on the account? If yes, then I can verify the account using your email to look into this further. However, if you are not listed on the account, then it would require that the account owner or a staff member on the account reach out to us directly.
That said, there is a chance this is coming from the theme itself. If they are using a third-party theme, they will want to touch base with the theme developer to ensure the SSO coding is not causing the issues you're seeing.

Hey, there!
Google can take up to 90 days to crawl your stores' webpage before the information is updated. Submitting a sitemap, or using the fetch and render tool within Google Search console can help speed this process up. That said, the meta description you showcased in your screenshots would be tied to your homepage, whereas your search results also show your collection pages. If you open each individual collection page within your admin, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and edit the SEO section, you should be able to update what appears for each collection you have.
Let me know how that turns out!

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the help. I had already submitted the sitemap so thats ok. I checked the crawlability on GSC and everything looks ok there too. I also tried a live test of the homepage url and the rendered html for the meta description its also the one I specified on the admin panel. The issue is that the MD in a live search result is picking up a different type of text. I guess it could be that Googlebot news to recrawl the site and Im now on the waiting game?
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks again.
Btw, is it normal that that many Shopify websites have the same issue (per my previous post screenshot)?
I am also having this problem. Unsure how to get it fixed.
