Shopify move - hoping for some advice.
We plan to move our current website hosted elsewhere to Shopify soon and was wondering if anyone could provide some step by step instructions they followed for facebook ads, google ads and merchant centre etc. Currently we spend a lot of money on google and facebook shopping ads and would like to avoid any issues when we move over. Currently i plan to copy all our product data etc over to shopify, setup the theme, make sure everything works and then repoint the domain but i'm unsure what the best way is to make sure our ads experience minimal disruption.
Any advice?
Thank you in advance!
For Google merchant center, make sure the product ID is the same when you migrate. This to avoid your historic performance and ranking to disappear.
And make sure that the data feed is as similar to each other as possible, meaning all the attributes.
@EmmanuelFlossie and @Ola_Dev Thank you for your replies! We are going to be using Nextcart to clone all our product data which should bring everything over in terms of attributes etc. I have checked the product ID and there doesn't seem to be a way to bring this over as it appears to be set by shopify themselves, any ideas?
In regards to the process, we were planning to use Multifeeds for our google feed as it seems to be better than the shopify one. Can we set up everything like analytics before we go live or would this all have to be after the site goes live? Is it just as simple as changing the feed in merchant centre or is there more to it?
Thank you for your help!
@Ola_Dev Thanks! Do you recommend using the shopify google app alongside multifeeds for analytics and ad tracking or are we better off copying over the hard code we used on our previous host?
You can use the old product id, and add it as a sku, or even a custom metafield.
Then in multifeeds, map this value for the product ID.
The steps to migrate in GMC is to first (when ready) delete the old primary feed, migrate your website.
Create your new feed, and verify it's all correct.
Then add the new feed.
This will avoid suspensions, as it can happen when the website is unreachable, or broken, that you get suspended.
For Facebook ads, applying the same things Emmanuel said for Google to the feed going. Keep the ids the same. If you have product sets, make sure you have the same product data as well so they continue to be segmented as you intended.
Then having your pixel continue to smoothly function. This is straight forward in Shopify with the Facebook channel and enabling the maximum option on the pixel to use CAPI.
Lastly, ensuring your landing pages used in existed ads point to the intended pages, either through redirects or directly.
