Yeah I have a software engineering background, If you point me in the right direction I can probably figure it out, although my experience is more in Java backend not so much on the website side.

Hello Raj36,

The issue you're encountering, where the checkout page is not loading correctly on mobile devices but works on desktops, could be due to a variety of reasons. However, to diagnose the exact reasons, we need more information about your site. Thus, please don’t hesitate to directly contact our specialist. And here are some potential causes and solutions that are commonly met by other Shopify merchants:

  • Source Code Customizations: If you've made custom changes to your Shopify theme's source code, there might be some HTML, CSS, or JavaScript that is not compatible with mobile browsers. => Review any custom code changes for mobile compatibility. Ensure that CSS and JavaScript are properly designed to handle different screen sizes and device capabilities.
  • Payment Gateway Integration: There might be an issue with how the payment gateway is integrated within your Shopify store. Mobile browsers sometimes handle redirects differently, which could be causing the problem. => Test the payment gateway integration on different mobile devices and browsers to see if the issue is consistent. Review the integration documentation for any mobile-specific instructions or settings.
  • Theme Responsiveness: Some themes may have responsive issues with certain elements on mobile devices. => Try switching temporarily to a default Shopify theme to see if the problem persists. If the issue is resolved, the problem likely lies within your current theme's responsiveness.
  • Scripts and Apps: Third-party apps or custom scripts added to your Shopify store can cause conflicts or issues, particularly with mobile browsers. => Disable any non-essential apps or scripts and test to see if that resolves the issue.
  • Browser-Specific Issues: The issue could be related to specific mobile browsers. => Test your checkout process on different mobile browsers to identify if the problem is isolated to one browser. Make sure to follow best practices for cross-browser compatibility.
  • Viewport Settings: Incorrect viewport settings in the HTML head can cause rendering issues on mobile. => Ensure that the viewport meta tag is set correctly to handle different device widths.
  • Heavy Content: Mobile devices might struggle to load heavy content, such as large images or complex scripts, leading to display issues. => Optimize all assets for mobile devices, compress images, and minify scripts.
  • Cache Issues: Sometimes, caching mechanisms can cause an older version of the page to load or interfere with dynamic content loading. =>  Clear the cache from your Shopify admin panel and recommend customers clear their mobile browser cache.

To debug this issue:

  • Use browser developer tools in mobile simulation mode to see if you can spot any errors.
  • Check your Shopify theme's updates and apply any that are pending.
  • Look at the console for any JavaScript errors that might indicate a problem with scripts.
  • Check the network activity to see if any resources are failing to load.
  • If the problem persists, contact Shopify support for further assistance. They may be able to provide insights into whether this is a known issue with a solution.

If you've gone through the entire checklist and the issue still persists, please don't hesitate to reply to this comment or contact us directly. Provide us with your site's information and any relevant details so we can work together to resolve the error as efficiently as possible.
