Need a discount app that can replace our Shopify Script

Hey all, I have a simple problem, but so far I haven't been able to find a solution.

When people buy specific products on our shop, we let them choose two freebies to go with it. The freebie items are usually $5, but if the user buys that specific product, they get to choose which $5 items they want. The fact that they have to choose the items is a key point. This is an offer we run 100% of the time. We want this offer to happen whether the trigger item is full price, on sale, or has a discount code, etc.

Right now, to add the two freebie items, we use a Shopify script. This is ideal, because it's simple, free, and the script will still allow the trigger item to be discounted.

Shopify is doing away with Scripts, so unfortunately we're stuck having to figure out a new solution for this. At first, with the advent of combinable discounts, I thought a Buy X Get Y offer would work, but it doesn't. Even when that discount is set to combinable, if I apply a coupon code to the cart, the Buy X get Y is removed and replaced with the coupon code (or whatever discount is greater, even though we want them both applied).

Granted, this would only be an issue when we're running a sale with a coupon code, but still, we can't not be able to do that.

I had another idea too but it didn't work, so I'm back to square one. It doesn't seem like it should be too big a thing to replicate, and I'm surprised Shopify can't do it out of the box, tbh.

As you can see, the top item (trigger) has a coupon code applied. The other two freebie items are being offered as intended.

Does anyone know of an app that would accomplish this functionality? Any advice would be appreciated!
