New product listing instead of colour variations - bad for seo?

I have color variations of my necklaces, for example, that I would like to be shown on collection pages. This has proven to be difficult. My other option is to create separate products for these variations, such as Bird Necklace / Red or Bird Necklace - Red (or whatever punctuation is best).

Will this be bad for seo?
