No Google Ads data being recorded in Shopify

No Google Ads data being recorded in Shopify

We've been using GA4 in conjunction with Shopify for a while now and everything seems ok in GA4; sales, product, revenue, source data etc is being recorded. However in Shopify we're only seeing Google data for organic and surfaces, with no Shopify sales being attributed to Google Ads at all. Both Google Ads and GA4 are showing significant sales and revenue. Shopify/GA4 have been connected using the Google & YouTube App (I've confirmed that basic stuff like the data stream number is correct and the the GA4/Google Ads accounts are linked) so I don't know why Shopify isn't recording sales from Google Ads. Has anyone come across this before?

Hi @Sam182

It seems that you are experiencing an issue with Shopify not attributing sales from Google Ads. While I cannot provide a definitive solution, I can suggest some troubleshooting steps to help you identify the problem and potentially resolve it:

1. Verify the Google Analytics settings within your Shopify store:

  • Go to your Shopify admin panel and navigate to "Settings" > "Online Store" > "Preferences".
  • Ensure that your Google Analytics tracking ID is correctly entered.

2. Check the Google Ads attribution settings in GA4:

  • In GA4, go to the Admin panel and select "Data Streams" under the Property column.
  • Locate your Shopify data stream and click on it to access the settings.
  • Make sure that the "Enable ecommerce reporting" option is enabled.

3. Validate the Google Ads conversion tracking setup:

  • In Google Ads, go to "Tools & Settings" > "Measurement" > "Conversions".
  • Confirm that the correct conversion actions are set up and attributed to the appropriate Google Ads campaigns.

4. Review the attribution window settings:

  • Compare the attribution window settings in Google Ads and GA4 to ensure they align.
  • In Google Ads, go to "Tools & Settings" > "Measurement" > "Attribution"
  • In GA4, go to "Admin" > "Conversions" > "Attribution settings"

5. Double-check the link between Google Ads and GA4:
In Google Ads, go to "Tools & Settings" > "Linked accounts" > "Google Analytics"

6. Examine the UTM parameters:
Ensure that your Google Ads are correctly tagged with UTM parameters for proper tracking within Shopify. You can use Google's URL builder to help with this.

I hope that this helps!

Hi @Sam182 ,

I'm Irene from UpTag: Google Tag + Ads Tracking.

Our app supports Shopify merchants in installing Google Analytics 4, Google Tag, and Google Ads Tracking into their Shopify store without the need for embedding codes. With UpTag, you only need to insert your Tracking ID into the app, and UpTag will set up all the tracking tools for you.

Furthermore, UpTag can assist merchants in customizing events if your store is using a third-party theme.

Hope that UpTag has the opportunity to support you in setting up GA4, Google Tag, and Google Ads. You can find the app at https://apps.shopify.com/uptag-google-tag-conversion?source=shopify_forum
