SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Here is my new site: www.artehaus.co
We sell art prints. The price point is a little more expensive than a typical cheap art poster because they're art prints from actual artists, signed, high quality prints and in some cases limited editions.
I'm struggling a little defining my target for facebook Ads, any tips would be welcome. I guess the ultimate question is who would be buying art prints?
Here's what I have so far:
- Targeting people who are interested in:
- interior design
- Art galleries
- Photography
- Targeting people who have society6 (a large art prints website) in their interests
- Targeting big art buying cities: New York, London, Hong Kong etc.
- Targeting people with higher incomes
- Home owners? (but dont want to cut out renters really...) Is targetting new home owners possible?
Any more tips, am I doing the wrong thing completely?
Hey,
I'm Aria, a Social Care guru at Shopify.
I think you're on the right track! I'm on the fence with the homeowner's category. I can understand why you were including that but if you're targeting high-income people, it may not matter if they're renting. I'd maybe try both to see which works out the best.
Other than Society6, what other websites sell a similar quality of art? I wouldn't restrict it to followers of one website.
Keep in mind, Facebook is not your only option. With a visual product like that, Instagram could be favourable for you. Seek out your competitors on Instagram and target their followers. That can be a lot more cost-effective than Facebook ads and can even be done for free. It just so happens we have a fun new blog post on Instagram marketing.
I wish you the best of luck! Let me know if you need anything else.

Sweet post, thanks for writing.
Ah yes, Facebook. So effective, yet so many misconceptions.
For example: There are no coincidences in digital marketing. Especially when it comes to targetting.
It’s not a coincidence that you just got hit with an ad showing the exact products in a carousel you were looking at on a site. It’s amazing how specific the targeting is. All they have to do is show the products you viewed or added to cart, and you’re sold.
We just blogged about this topic if you need more information: https://bit.ly/2sJ0gYq
Hey,
I definitely think you are on the right track! A couple of things you can look more into are more competitors. See who is following there social media pages and engaging with them. That may give you a better idea of you would purchase your products.
Next, you could consider finding an age range for your specific products. Obviously, you want to target people who have a higher income. What age do people start making a high income at? Maybe those who are few years out of college and are a bit edgier. I would take out older folks since your art seems to relate to a younger audience. Keep age in mind while figuring out your targeted audience.
Remember that you want to target a small group, but not too small that you won't get more traffic than you already have.
As you're advertising on facebook, it could be beneficial to capture the vistors details. This can now be done by asking people to comment or via a simple checkbox on your site. This will allow you to message them directly on facebook messenger, increasing engagement and at 100% delivery, unless someone is using a false log in.
By doing this, you could send over 'new designs, weekly, monthly etc. You could have flash sales for subscribers.
Linking this is with a loyalty/reward program where people are rewarded with points for sharing, would look to generate loyalty.
Hi Lawrie, thanks for the suggestion. Can you please explain a little more so I understand.
Do you mean asking them to comment on my facebook page or somewhere else? How can I add a checkbox to my site?
Thank you
Hi
As far as advertising on facebook and your audience, that can require trial and error but I've no doubt that you will find the audience. Age, city, salary, relationship status are pointers to look at for your audience. I think I would agree that looking at competitors would be a good way forward.
What I was referring to is looking to increase the effectiveness of your advertising by collecting their details, as a massive percentage of people viewing social media and ads are on a mobiolle device, you can message them after they have left your site via facebook messenger.
A BIG BUTTON on your site requiring a single tick for a visitor to hit, rather than putting in a long email address and confirming it, so they don't have to visit facebook subscribes them to your list.
You then have the ability to message them with new pieces and flash sales that you may put on. Linking this in to an integrated rewards/loyalty program offering points for sharing a post can build a loyal following for your brand.
I do appreciate that this doesn't actually address the audience question. I would be tempted to look at the likes on your fb page currently and see if there's any common interests.
