Pages not indexing on secondary shopify store

Hi,

We have two domains for our Shopify stores one with a ".ie" extension (for Ireland) and other with a ".com" extension. I have just come across an issue on Google search console wherein a good chunk of our pages are not getting indexed for our ".com" domain.

There are around 11.7K pages which are in "not indexed" section, with just 257 pages in the indexed section

Any inputs as to how can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello @varun916,

The indexing of your content by Google is determined by system algorithms that take into account user demand and quality checks.

There can be many reasons why your pages are not found on Google.

1. Your website is new
It takes some time for Google to discover your website URLs. You can check whether Google knows your website exists by running site:yourwebsite.com in Google search. If there is at least one result, it means Google knows about your website. It can take time for Google to index your page; allow at least a week after submitting a sitemap or a submit to index request before assuming a problem. If your page or site change is recent, check back in a week to see if it is still missing.
2. Make sure you are not blocking search engines from indexing your pages
Pages with noindex won't get indexed by Google.
<meta name="robots" content="noindex"/>
Remove the noindex from pages were not needed.
3. You are blocking google crawling
Google can't crawl URLs blocked in your robots.txt file, which usually results in them not appearing in search results. Check the robots.txt for your website and remove any directives blocking content that you want to show up on Google.
4. Add appropriate keywords related to the product or your store niche
It’s incredibly important to make sure that you know how to use keywords in your content correctly so that your content has a better chance of being found, indexed, and ranked. Put your keywords in the page title, meta description, image description and alt tags, headers and titles, and product description.
5. Make sure your store is mobile-friendly
A mobile-friendly website is critical to getting your site indexed by Google since it introduced Mobile-First indexing. No matter how great the content on your website is, if it’s not optimized for viewing on a smartphone or tablet, you’re going to lose rankings and traffic.
6. Your site has minimal content
Well-written content is critical for succeeding on Google. You may have significant issues if you have minimal content that doesn’t at least meet your competition’s levels.
7. Make sure your site doesn't have any redirect loops
A redirect loop occurs when a URL is redirected to another URL, which in turn redirects back to the URL that was originally requested, leading to an infinite cycle of redirects. If you redirect from one page to another, the content on the original page will not get indexed. Only the target URL will be crawled and indexed by the search engine.
