Just a heads up.
If you have in the past, or are now using a company called RedefineSEO to help you with your SEO, be very careful.
I have allowed this company ? to alter my page, collection and meta descriptions.
Tonight I have been emailed by a competitor regarding this statement in my Google snippets.
"Plastic Model Figures - Test Valley Models is the UK's leading Models shop for military figures, Aircraft figures, Ships figures and plastic figures for the model enthusiast. Shop Today."
This is a completely false and unfounded claim, and to some extent infringes the Trade Descriptions Act (UK), it was not given the OK by me.
I am only thankful that I am on good terms with the competitor who made me aware of this
Even Carling only claim "probably" to avoid a lawsuit !
This is my experience, they may have done great work for others, but I have ended my contract with them.
As a result of this, I have had to suspend my site, and check all the relevant descriptions to make sure no more make false claims.

This is an accepted solution.

The description field in my example above is what would normally output as the META-description tag - unless this has been hard-coded or changed in your template code. So try and change it and see if it shows. If not then you need to edit the template code.

It should be in your theme.liquid file

{% if page_description %}
      <meta name="description" content="{{ page_description | escape }}">
    {% endif %}

Hi, @Mad_Modeler

Sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced with the company you hired to do some SEO work. Having to suspend your website temporarily is of course not ideal, but I'm glad to hear you're moving forward with resolving the issues caused.

I wanted to check in and see if you hired this company through our Experts Marketplace? If you hire a Shopify Expert and have any issues, please reach out to our Support team directly to report the issue. Our Partner Governance team will to look into any reports that are made regarding a negative experience with a Shopify Expert. We highly value feedback and will take action on negative experiences that are reported.

If this company was not hired through the Experts Marketplace, we won't be able to take any action. I hope you can get this resolved as quickly as possible. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to help.

Hi @Hilary

Thanks for replying.

I didn't hire these through Shopify experts.

This company has really messed up my collection and meta descriptions. The collection descriptions I can adjust, but I have no idea how to re-write the meta descriptions.

Sorry for your bad experience. It's aways risky to let others edit your site.

Editing your collection - or product META-descriptions is very easy. At the bottom of each page there is a "Search Engine Listing Preview" section. Click the "Edit website SEO" link to expand it and then edit your description as you like.

I will however very much recommend that you keep it under 155 characters - not the 320 Shopify suggest, to be sure it is all shown in search results.

Sorry I was not very clear.

They have also had access to my page metatag descriptions it is these that I do not know how to view and edit if needs be.

See example below for the instructions, and example I was given;

URL 1 : https://testvalleymodels.com/

Current Title:- Test Valley Models Discounts on Warhammer, Warlord and Gaming Products — Test Valley Models.com

Suggested Title :- Buy Warhammer, Warlord and Gaming Products Online UK - Test Valley Models
