Remove Collection/Frontpage - SEO Critical Error

Hi everyone,

I'm utilizing Ubersuggest to assess my website, MyPaletteAI.

I've encountered a critical issue labeled "Low Word count" on the collections/frontpage.

However, since I'm not utilizing this particular page, I intend to deactivate it to prevent crawling and mitigate this SEO concern.

Could you please advise me on how to proceed?

Thank you for your assistance.

Froz,

Hi Froz,  Couple of ways to go about this:

First one:

1. You can create a free account on Google Search Console - https://search.google.com/search-console/

2. Once you are all signed up, Click on removals on the left hand side menu and enter your collection page urls.

Second one:

1. Just add a conditional no-index meta tag. To do this, find your theme.liquid file in the theme editor and add the below code in the <head></head> section:

{% if collection.handle == 'url-of-your-collection-page' %} <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> {% endif %}

I don't think its a good idea to de-index front page. When people search for your website, google shows your front page most of the time.

URLs and pages with low word count impact the overall SEO score of a website or store. It is better to restrict them to no-index or mark them as canonical.

If the page is indexed and you want to remove it from the search:

  • Go into your search console account and removal section
  • Add the URLs you want to remove
  • Select the temporary or permanent removal options
  • The page will be removed from the search

To restrict the search engine crawlers from indexing such pages. You need to add a no-index tag to each page. Use a Shopify SEO app that can do this in bulk. Pages are indexed in multiple ways as you submitted them through Search Console or referred from another indexed page.
