SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi!
I am in the process of moving my vintage store from Etsy to Shopify. I've already imported my orders and order lists and can now see my past customers from Etsy on Shopify.
When I go to make a campaign for a marketing email I'm only seeing two subscribers. Do I need to convert my customers to subscribers in order to send a marketing email?
Thanks,
Clem
Hey, Clem.
Welcome to Shopify and congratulations on leveling up your business! How does it make you feel?
I am reading that you have already imported your customers over from Etsy to Shopify, and that you’re setting up an email campaign, and want to add your customers to the email campaign. Is that right?
If that’s right, you are correct. While it’s not mandatory, it is recommended to have your customers opt-in for marketing emails (subscribe to receive emails from your store) before sending emails to customers to promote your store.
Have these customers subscribed for emails from your store on Etsy before, or will you need to set this up in Shopify?
What are you currently using to send email campaigns? I am curious to hear your answers to these questions so that we can work together on helping you promote your business to your customers.
What products does your vintage store carry? I would love to know so that I can provide you with some tailored resources to help you succeed in your business as well!

Thanks for the additional details, Clem! This is helpful and that's awesome to hear you are starting a vintage clothing store!
Let’s get you set-up with email marketing for your store.
It’s best to send emails to customers who have already subscribed to your emails as I mentioned in my previous post. If you would like to set this up, you can set-up a newsletter sign-up in your store for your customers or you can collect their emails at checkout. This allows customers to enter their email address in and it will add them into your Customers list of your Shopify Admin. We have the steps to help you set either of these options in our help doc here: Collect email addresses from customers.
I know you want to try out Shopify Email for your marketing campaigns. Shopify Email is a great way to send emails to your customers directly from the Shopify admin, which allows you to keep all of your email promotions in one place while you also manage your store. You can also design your emails to match your brand, and link directly to products to share them with your customers. You will need to be on a paid subscription plan to use Shopify Email, and you will be able to send 2,500 emails per month!
Here is our help doc where you can learn more about setting up Shopify Email.
Since you mentioned that you haven’t sent any email campaigns before, I wanted to share this blog post with some best practices and tips on email marketing: Email Marketing Best Practices: How to Improve (Almost) Every Email. This blog post covers before-the-open elements and why they matter, the best time to send email, and email content best practices.
Whenever I send out email campaigns, I love looking at examples for inspiration for my own email templates and campaigns. Here is a blog post with 12 unique email campaign examples that might inspire you for your clothing business: How to Write an Effective Welcome Email (and 12 Examples That Get It Right).
I would love to know your thoughts and I’m here to support you with any questions for your business!
