SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello,
I'm a cartoonist and my website serves as both a platform to show my comics as well as a way for people to buy prints/stickers of the comics: www.earthtoplanet.com (theme: Dawn)
I already have 700+ product images uploaded onto my site and I'm hoping to do three things to improve my SEO:
1. Batch update all of the images to rename them with a templated naming convention
2. Batch update all of the images to add alt text using a templated naming convention
3. Set up a process where future uploaded images automatically rename and have an alt text added
I'm aware that there's a paid product called Bulk Image Edit but I have not yet tried it and I'm hoping to avoid a recurring costs. (Though I'd be open to paying for a month to batch update my existing images.)
Any advice as to how I could achieve my three goals without needing to pay for a recurring monthly service?
Thank you!
Hi @earthtoplanet,
I think I have answer to 2 out of your 3 questions.
When you export your products from Shopify, you get a CSV with products data. One of the columns is called "Image Src" and the other one is called "Image Alt Text".
See the screenshot:
So for bulk editing, I recommend exporting your products and upload the exported file to e.g. Google Sheet and make changes to the sheet using some of the formulas available in Google Sheet.
You can e.g. find name of an image and replace the name with a new name, and else. It depends on how the naming should look like...
Hope this helps!
Hi @Niki_K and thanks. Appreciate you pointing out that the Image Alt Text is one of the available fields in the bulk product export. I missed that!
Unfortunately, changing the Image Src in the bulk export causes the product's image to break requiring a reupload of the image for that product.
I'm still on the hunt for help on bulk renaming all of my product images and an automated way to update images/image alt text going forward!
Hi @earthtoplanet,
yes, true, you're totally right about the Image Src – so, in this case, you will definitely need to use an app, I guess. I don't have any recommendation but you can try searching for SEO apps, maybe one of them could provide this feature.
@Niki_K This is so insightful thanks so much! But where can I get this exact CSV, when I export my products there is no information on the product images, this is all that I get
Thank you. Even though this doesn't hit on two of the three challenges I'm trying to achieve, this does seem like the best answer for how to automate updating image alt tages.
Hi, if you're looking for a bulk ALT-Text app, check out either our app caseo.ai or alttext.ai both are AI-powered image scanning apps. If you just need to do a one-time run on your images, we can do that for you with no monthly costs. I would advise against cheap bulk ALT text apps, they aren't good for google or accessbility purposes.
What would you advise for a print-on-demand shop. Was sleepy, not to add the "Alt Text" of all images on each product page (370 products), collection page (22) and blog articles (around 20), suppose something between 1,000 and 2,000 images.
We have some specific requirements and think about an A.I. based solution like a shopify app ( e.g. alttext.ai or Caseo AltText & Meta AI Writer).
Please check out the specific requirements we have in a new post here in the community forum. Best answer there about the questions pls.
Tks in advance giving attention to and for quick reply.
