Setting up both Google Ads tracking and Google Analytics

Hello!

I set up Google Analytics by going to Online Store/Preferences and pasting the analytics code in the Google Analytics section. Basically I followed this guide here:

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup

Now I also want to set up Google Ads conversion tracking so I followed the Google Ads instructions and added just the gtag('config', XXXXXX') command to the analytics code mentioned above, and put it again in the Analytics section, as before.

Is this the right way to go? Does shopify "understands" both trackings?

Also, it says on shopify guides that I should find that code editing the liquid theme, but it does not show anywhere. Still, Analytics is working fine.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Luca,

To set up Google ads conversion tracking. You first have to add the Global site tag to your filetheme.liquid. Add it before the closing </head> tag.

After that create a conversion event in your Adwords and copy the event snippet and place it at the appropriate place on your website. For a purchase conversion event, you should place the conversion code and paste it in your Additional scripts under your checkout settings.

Follow this guide for more info https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/analyze-marketing/tracking-adwords-conversion....

If you try it on your own and still can't figure it out. send me an email at benjamin[at]kudobuzz.com and I walk you through a screen share.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! What about Google analytics? Is it ok to set it up in the preferences section? Is it going to do conversion tracking as well or should I past the global analytics Tag too in the theme code?

For Google Analytics, you can use the preferences section. That will work fine -  after that turn on enhanced ecommerce tracking in your Google analytics account.

Here is guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup
