Setup automated follow-up email on purchase of products from specific collection

Hello all.  I've been trying to work out how to set up an automation that will send a follow-up email when purchasers buy from a specific collection.  The collection is for Original Art and I want them to get an email thanking them for their support of the artist and explaining the packaging, shipping service and insurance for their purchase.  Also to make sure they haven't used a PO Box address and a few other details.

I feel like it's simple to set up but I'm struggling finding the correct option within the automation settings that specifically will send an automated mail to this targeted group every time a new order is made.

Any help with this very gratefully received. Thanks!

This is an accepted solution.

Thank you! This worked perfectly. No additional apps needed. I lined out the steps a little more detailed below.

1) Create marketing email

2) Create Automation
Marketing - Automations - Create Automation - Create Custom Automation - Shopify Admin API - Order Created

Start When: Order Created

then - Condition - click add criteria - order - lineItems - name (repeat this step to include or exclude additional items)
Check if: Name includes "XYZ"
then - Action - Email - Send Marketing Email - Select template - Your Templates - Choose the desired template (Add subject & preview text) - Save
Do This: Send Marketing Email
Run a test purchase to make sure your Automation is working. If it isn't you can click into the flow to see where it is hitting false and stopping the sequence.

Did you have a look at the Shopify Post Purchase Thank You app (it's free).  It may not suit straight out of the box as it includes all checkouts but it may be customizable to include only certain collections.

Hi.  Thanks for the reply.  I hadn't considered that.

Just had a quick look on the app store but only seem to be able to find apps that provide a post purchase Thank You page but not ones that send an email.  I'll keep looking.

I do feel that the automation function in Shopify must have the ability but that I'm failing to find the right options though. 😀

I found the Shopify Post Purchase Thank You app on my dashboard, along with abandoned checkout, and a few more in the marketing section on the dashboard.

If not there then try home and scroll down. There are often new app offers. These were all Shopify free apps which I found very easy to use and edit.

Hello @UniquelyGeekly,

I am Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $6Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot. I am here to support you.

To create an automated system in Shopify that sends follow-up emails when customers purchase from a particular collection, you can utilize Shopify's built-in marketing automation feature called "Shopify Flow." Here's a detailed guide to assist you.

-> Access your Shopify admin panel and log in.

-> Locate the "Settings" option in the left-hand sidebar and click on it. Then, depending on your Shopify version, select either "Automation" or "Workflow."

-> Look for the "Create workflow" or a similar button to initiate the setup process for new automation.

-> Provide a name for your workflow, such as "Follow-Up Email for Specific Collection."

-> Under the "Workflow trigger" section, choose "Order created" to activate the automation whenever an order is placed.

-> Click the "Add condition" button and select "Products from specific collection" as the condition.

-> From the dropdown menu, pick the desired collection that you want to target.

-> If you wish to include additional conditions, such as order value or customer location, you can click the "Add condition" button again and select the relevant condition.

-> Utilize the "Add action" button to specify the action to be taken when the conditions are met. For this case, select either "Send email" or "Send notification" based on your preference.

-> Configure the email or notification settings by entering the subject, content, and recipient details.

-> Once you have finalized the action settings, click on "Save" to preserve the workflow.

Let me know if you require any further guidance.

Gina

My Shopify doesn't appear to match your instructions though.  I don't have "Automation" or "Workflow" in my settings.  I do however have "Automations" under the marketing tab.  When I create a custom automation and am able to add the condition box.  From there though I have a selection of options when I click 'Add Criteria' and can't seem to find the right ones.   I have a choice of Order or Shop and then the various queries.  They are listed in this documentation.

These instructions have not been successful for me either.

Hi @UniquelyGeekly, not sure if you've solved this, but @flareAI forgot to mention in their answer that Shopify Flow is an app that needs to be installed in order to use it. It is free, and comes from Shopify.

I do not see "Product of Specific Collection" exists under "add condition" step.... has anybody been successful with these instructions? I'm trying to send a thank you and the actual product is in a Google Drive document, and after purchase of said product, I want the customer to receive this email. I CANNOT figure it out. Shopify is actually really difficult for someone that just needs simple steps....

Hi,

I've just set up an automation using the Shopify Email app.

Trigger: Order created

Check if: Name includes workshop

Do this: Send marketing email

I can't remember the exact steps I used to get here, but if you do enough digging in the prompts, you should be able to find what you're looking for.

Just for context, I wanted to send an email to customers who purchase a Workshop booking. The automation will check all orders created and if one of the line items includes the word 'Workshop' it will send the customer an email that I have customised.

Hope this helps.

You did this with no app ? Like not on the email app you did this from marketing section?

You can access this in the Marketing Section under Automations. You do have
to use the Shopify Email to create the message that is being sent. The flow
is created under the Automations section though.

This is great.  Thanks so much for this.  I just need to try and work out if I can do this for all products from a category now.

Is there a way to do this in bulk? Instead of individually adding line items name you can pull all the items from a specific collection?

When using the Shopify Marketing Email app, it is required that the recipient be from the subscribed email list.  Does anyone know how to send a simple email to the buyer?  We need to provide instructions on how to use the product - not a marketing email.

thanks

That's a bit concerning! It sounds like your iPhone's search function is a little too curious about your emails.

To prevent this, you can try adjusting your iPhone's privacy settings. Go to Settings > Privacy > Search. From there, you can choose to limit the types of information that are included in search results. You might want to turn off "Mail" to stop your email content from appearing in searches.

If that doesn't work, you could try updating your iPhone's software to the latest version. Sometimes, software updates can fix these kinds of issues.
