Hi Shopify Community,
Meta Business Suite shows what appears to be two duplicate Shopify connected apps: one called "Shopify" and one called "Shopify by Facebook". The "Shopify" app appeared to have access to more Shopify data than the other, but was connected in 2021 whereas the "Shopify by Facebook" app was connected in 2022. We removed the "Shopify" app in an attempt to clean up our integrations between the two, and now I'm afraid we've made an irreversible mistake. It's worth mentioning that the "Shopify" app that we removed appeared to have access to more data within Shopify; however, it was missing the Facebook Commerce integration and was older, so we assumed that this was not needed and somehow a duplicate, old connection made at some point in time.
What are the differences between these two connected apps? How are apps added to this particular list of connections within Facebook, and how can we re-connect an app that we removed? The "Shopify" app now shows in the "Removed" tab within Meta Business Suite connected app settings, but we are unable to re-connect through Meta, and it's unclear how we would do so on the Shopify side. There are multiple places to connect/disconnect the integration between Meta and Shopify within the Meta and Shopify platforms, so this is a bit challenging to diagnose and is confusing to say the least. We're unable to find any documentation on this subject, and Shopify Plus was unable to provide an explanation, so any help provided from the Community would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your input.
Hi @zg_stores,
The “Shopify” app and “Shopify by Facebook” app in Meta Business Suite are two different integrations; the older “Shopify” app connected Shopify stores but lacked full Facebook Commerce features, while the newer “Shopify by Facebook” app supports Facebook Shops and Instagram Shopping better. Removing the old app moves it to the “Removed” tab in Meta but doesn’t fully disconnect Shopify’s side, and Meta doesn’t offer a simple way to reconnect it there. To fix this, you need to go into your Shopify admin, open the Facebook (Meta) sales channel, and run through the setup process again to reauthorize and reconnect the integration. Once done, the new app connection will show in Meta, and you can ignore the removed one. If issues continue, contacting Facebook Business Support may be needed since they manage these app permissions.
