Hey Shopify community. I am pretty new to Shopify and eCommerce. I was wondering if most Shopify businesses use a CRM and have a retention strategy. What CRM platforms are most popular ? How are they commonly used for acquisition and retention ?

Can't speak for others, but we have quite a few stores using Mixtable as a spreadsheet-based Shopify CRM. You have all the flexibility and features of an Excel spreadsheet, with a seamless sync to and from Shopify.
