Shopify Email - sending out an automatic email to new subscribers

Hi! I'm setting up my shopify store at the moment, transferring over from wix. At the moment I have an email list using mailchimp, but I'd ideally like to transfer over to shopify email so it's all in one place.

When customers sign up to my email list they get a discount code for 10% off - I'd like this to be sent automatically every time someone signs up. I've created an email campaign using shopify email however it doesn't seem to send out automatically - just when I click 'send' on the email. 

Does shopify email have the ability to send out automations right now or should I stick with mailchimp? Thanks!

Hi @lilackitten!

As you noticed, the Shopify Email app lets you only send manual campaigns. I'd also like to know if Shopify is planning to add automation to the Shopify Email app. For now, you'll need to stick with Mailchimp if you want to keep sending the automated welcome email.

@lilackitten I'm looking to do the same thing. I need an option to automatically send an email to new subscribers. Would love to utilize Shopify Email however this lack of automation is deterring me from using it altogether, so I'm wondering if it is worth it to sign up for MailChimp simply to get this done. With you're MailChimp automatic email, does the user have to confirm subscription (akin to the "Double opt-in" functionality within Shopify's settings) or are they automatically subscribed once they submit the form on your website?

@LukaszWiktor are you aware of any other solutions or Shopify Apps to get an automatic email sent to subscribers other than MailChimp?

There are plenty of options. Besides Mailchimp, you can try other fully-featured email marketing solutions which integrate with Shopify:

(in alphabetical order)

- Active Campaign
- Klaviyo
- Machine Labs
- MailerLite
- Omnisend
- Sendinblue

You can also use a pop-up app which has a built-in autoresponder / welcome email. For example, MailMunch or Privy.

I was wondering if you know the following regarding mailchimp and Shopify:

The trigger in mailchimp for @"Thank first-time customers" is: X days, after subscribers purchase anything from your store. Does this mean that every time a subscriber makes a purchase they will receive this email?

Hey @LuisIvan,

As far as I know, if you set up the "Thank first-time customers" campaign, then Mailchimp will send an email only when a subscriber makes their first purchase. If you want to send an email after every purchase, then you'd need to select the "Follow up on purchases" automation.

I can't believe that in 2021, this is not a native feature.

Shopify, if you give us the capacity to email our mailing list, please also allow us to set up basic e-com automation through your platform without more additional subscriptions.

I really don't understand why we don't have things like this 😔 I've been paying my subscription for so long, I wish they addressed things like this

We don't want to pay for ANOTHER additional app to access basic functionality.

And, we also already discussed that we know third party apps are available for this feature, but we don't understand why Shopify isn't including it as standard since it's very basic and other platforms include it.

And how long does it remain free for? Until the developer has enough users that they can start charging a subscription?

The point of this post is to raise a request with Shopify to build in this basic functionality into the core system.
