SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello everybody,
I'm quite new to e-commerce and decided to create my own dropshipping store about two weeks ago.
I spent a budget of about $200 in ads to test hypotheses about my target market and refine my positioning, and train my Facebook pixel as well.
Here are the results of my ads so you can have a glimpse:
As you can see, results aren't bad and I get between 1.2% and 7% CTR on my ads. I know the copy and the images / videos are compelling as I get many reactions or and a few comments of people tagging their friends on my ads, and I don't believe the problem lies there.
Results so far are as follows:
I've watched recordings of user sessions to understand what prevents them from buying and I've identified a few caveats I corrected (scroll issues, a pop-up that appeared too early, etc.)
I still think the problem comes from my website though, and would love some of you to have a look at it and tell me what could be the issues.
Here's the url: https://www.outdoorjuices.com
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey, there!
Jason here from Shopify Support.
Your site looks very professional and your insight on your Facebook marketing has proven that you are very analytical, which is excellent to have as an online business entrepreneur.
It is great that you are tweaking your Facebook ads to test your hypotheses, refine your positioning, and train your Facebook pixel. You are ahead of a lot of merchants. I encourage you to continue tweaking and observing your traffic volume. You will find the sweetest spot soon!
Knowing that you've looked at the recordings of user sessions, here are two apps that can continue helping you analyze your customers' behaviors: Lucky Orange and Hitsteps Analytics. These are great apps that can let you see heatmaps and videos of what your visitors do on the site. The results will offer you some great insights into where the customers are dropping off, and why they don't convert.
With your screenshot and the ad's detailed breakdown, I would have to agree with you. The problem perhaps isn't really about the ads, but rather, there is something else preventing visitors from buying. I did a brief research on the same products currently on the market and noticed that your product prices aren't quite as competitive. Another thing I noticed is that your featured product description is long. Based on your research, do your traffic typically scroll down towards the bottom of the page? Since your product reviews reside at the bottom of the page, you may want to take out some of the details from the product description. This way there are higher chances that visitors get to the product reviews. I've looked over and over at your site and these are the only things I could think of that are potentially stopping your traffic from converting into sales.
There are also three guides I recommend you have a quick read over when you have a moment: 9 Timeless Ways to Increase Conversions, The Ultimate Secret to Increasing Your Online Conversion Rate, and The Beginner's Guide to Conversion Rate Optimization.
Since your post was focused on Facebook marketing, how are you doing with other digital marketing channels, such as Google Adwords and Instagram? Here is a great course on How to Grow Your Business with Instagram.
I hope that information helps, however, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reply back here and I'd be happy to help out! Alternatively, you can always give us a call or start a live chat at any time. We're open 24/7 for your convenience and always happy to assist!
All the best,
Jason
Hi,
Really liked your website. Very professional work.I've browsed on your website, and didn't found something that could be declared as a significant sales dropper. Of course there's stuff that can be done to improve, but not something that can explain why you didn't received even one single order.
That been said, have you considered that the issue might be related to the actual audience been targeted to your website?
If you think the issue may be related to the actual marketing, you might want to try AdScale.
AdScale leverages the data power of 1 million campaigns to build smart advertising for your store.
How it works?
1. The app analyses your store data and enriches it with database of 1 million active campaigns.
2. Then, automatically builds advertising campaigns across Google & Facebook that are tailored to your store.
3. Once activated, the app AI Technology analyses your advertising performance and optimize it 24/7 to maximize your revenue.
You can learn more about it on this link: https://apps.shopify.com/adscale
Hope it helps.
Hello! We are doing a student project, I posted a thread just now.
Please read it, maybe we can help you 🙂
Hi Jason,
Thanks very much for your feedback! I made my first sale yesterday thanks to Instagram!
I'm using Hotjar, which is very similar to Lucky Orange.
I think you pinpointed a real problem: pricing which isn't as competitive. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to lower my price without impacting my margin, as my supplier sells the product for quite a high price ($25USD) compared to some others ($12-15USD). I'm currently looking at other suppliers but I'm worried about quality and counterfeits.
As for the product description, I'll be adding tabs to it to ensure text doesn't seem this long and reviews are more salient, and might add live chat as well.
Also, tried a few Google Ads, again with many clicks but no conversion.
Instagram helped me make my first sale as I sent PMs to my new followers with a custom promo code!
Again, thanks a lot for your help and the great guides you've sent me!
Thanks, Amit. My budget is quite limited for now but I guess I'll give a try to Adscale as soon as I start growing!
Hello Elin,
Just read your thread and I'd be interested, but my store is about two weeks old. Far from your 6-months limit 😞
You're welcome. BTW, you can try AdScale even with a limited budget. You can start with a budget of $5/day and see good results.
Moreover, AdScale gives to every new user who installs a $75 credit on Google Ads, so you can actually start advertising with the app and pay very little on advertising costs.
Let me know if you need any help.
Hi, there.
Congratulations on your first sale!! Looking from your responses, I am more than sure there are more to come!
Your current supplier is sitting at more than double of what other suppliers are at. Since that's the case, I'd recommend you try some test orders from the other suppliers. This way, you get to know first hand how the product quality is and how the vendor's shipping speed/packaging is for their products. You will notice that spending money on the test order (sourcing products) may save you a lot of money in the long run (compared to the budget you use to digital marketing your products).
For Google ads, just like any ads, they require time to edit and adjust until you hit the sweeter spot. Knowing that you are having better clicks on Facebook, I would encourage you to master Facebook ads first before dabbing too far into Google Adwords. If you haven't done so, I suggest you visit our Facebook marketing blog, while keep growing your business through Instagram (where the engagement could be free).
While all these paid methods are great to learn, I also recommend you try out some of the alternative methods. Here are two great resources on how you can drive traffic to your store and no-cost ways to promote your online store. Wishing you great success!
Best,
Jason
