The issue with products started after reinstalling the Google & YouTube app.

My impressions on Google Merchant Center dropped from 4000 to 2900 in the end of March, and my products became limited. I made some changes to try to fix the issue, but that caused an even bigger drop—to 1900. Reverting the changes didn’t help. So, I deleted my Google Merchant account and created a new one through the Shopify app four days ago.

The new Merchant account initially worked fine. It showed the correct number of products (e.g., 1,000), but in the Shopify app, the product count was shown as:
Total: 0, Approved: 0, Limited: 0, etc.—and this didn’t change for four days.

To try and fix this, I reinstalled the Google & YouTube app in Shopify. After reinstalling, the app automatically made changes to my Merchant Center: it added more countries and switched my shipping settings from manual to automatic. I also connected Google Analytics through the app and followed the suggestion to "Migrate your Google tags to prevent data loss."

When I checked Merchant Center, all of my products were there—including ones that had previously been excluded.

Now, I’m trying to exclude the Google & YouTube app as a sales channel in Shopify to remove the products from Merchant Center. However, they’re still showing up in my Merchant account. In the past, when I removed products from Merchant Center, they disappeared within 1–5 minutes. But now, no products are being removed, and it’s been 2 hours. There are currently 175,000 products in my Merchant Center that are not being removed.

Can anyone help me understand what's going on and how to fix this?

  • Here’s a Shopify Community-friendly response you can post that offers helpful suggestions, respects guidelines, and invites further discussion without spotlighting the original AI/LLM speculation or sensitive platform behavior:

Thanks for sharing all the steps you've taken—sounds like you've put in a lot of effort trying to resolve the issue.

Regarding your Merchant Center product syncing, here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. App Sync Delay: After making changes (like removing a sales channel or reinstalling an app), syncing delays can sometimes last longer than expected. It might help to give it up to 24 hours before assuming it’s stuck—especially with large product counts like yours.

    2. Disassociate Feed Source: Instead of only removing the app as a sales channel, you may want to check if the product feed is still active in your Merchant Center. Look under Products > Feeds and ensure the feed created by the Shopify app is fully disconnected or deleted.

    3. Manually Remove Products: You can try removing products directly via the Products > All Products section in your Merchant Center by using rules, filters, or by removing the feed source. However, if Shopify is still actively pushing data, the removals may be temporary.

    4. Clear Cached Data in Google: Reinstalling the app and migrating tags may have created a mismatch in how product data is cached or indexed by Google. You could try clearing or resetting linked accounts (e.g., Analytics, Tag Manager) to ensure no duplicate or outdated settings are interfering.

    5. Alternative Sync Options: If syncing through the app continues to be an issue, you might consider uploading a feed manually or using a third-party feed manager for more control over how and when products appear in Merchant Center.

Also, happy to chat further about how AI tools might support content creation or monitoring your product visibility across the web in a separate thread or DM if you're interested.

Let me know how it goes or if you'd like help with a specific step!

Creating a new account doesn't work. In fact, you have put yourself at great risk of getting suspended. Because Google only allows 1 merchant to have 1 account.

I recommend that you close down the new account, and continue with the old one.

A drop in issues can be caused by many things, including consumer demand, competitors, so also things outside of your own control.

The first thing is indeed to fix your issues here: https://merchants.google.com/mc/products/diagnostics

As you have done that, and performance dropped more, check what was changed. For example did you change the product type value, and in Google Ads, your campaigns are configured / structured based on product type values. Then this can cause issues.

Also whenever you make a change, you need to let it settle for a few weeks so that it has time to take full effect.

To remove products in the google and youtube app, you need to unpublish them, this should take immediate effect within 24 hours.

If the app you are using is no longer working well, consider a more professional tool, for my clients I use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds

It is a more advanced app, so you will need to re-learn how to do everything. But I like using it as it has everything I need to achieve my clients goals.

If you have follow up questions, let me know, but I would start by reverting the accounts to avoid potential suspensions, and make sure to close down any duplicate accounts.

And here on the community, be careful with random A-I generated replies. They are generally fluff.

Emmanuel has already answered your question.

My two cents on your concern are kind of similar to what he has already suggested. Two merchant center accounts can cause issues. Thus, avoid creating new accounts while thinking that a newer account will resolve your issues. Rather, you can get suspended due to misrepresentation and many other reasons.

Also, once you reinstall the Google and YouTube apps, sometimes it can reset your settings and cause issues. That’s why your products and settings were affected.

Lastly, as Emmanuel suggested, try going with some other third-party data feed solution. I would recommend trying AdNabu. It offers accurate syncing capabilities (from Shopify to GMC) and has the ‘Built for Shopify’ tag as well.

Let me know if you would need assistance setting it up.
