Tracking 'Add_Payment_Info' or 'Begin_Checkout' Events for Shopify in GA4

Hello,

I set up GA4 as per this guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/migrating-to-google-analyt...

I've had transactions go through with a purchase event and an add to cart event but I'm not see add_payment_info event, or a begin_checkout.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks

Kyle

Hi @KyleRM

Are you on Shopify Plus? Because it seems like you're adding custom properties, and doing that in the checkout flow is only possible with Plus.

Unless I'm missing something. Please clarify!

Hey,

It say's these events will be automatically tracked - https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/tracking-ecommerce-events-...

I'm not seeing  add_payment_info event, or a begin_checkout with my transactions.

Thanks

Kyle

Same question here.  Shopify says:

"After you set up Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on your Shopify store, certain ecommerce events are tracked automatically."

Which EE events is Shopify sending to GA4?  At the very least, I expect to see view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, purchase.  Does anyone know what events are supported?

Using the Google Channel app to install the tag on standard Shopify, I get the view_item, add_to_cart and purchase events.

Using Analyzely (paid app) to install the tag, I get the view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase events.

Neither give me add_shipping_info and add_payment_info events.

me too. I'm not a shopify plus member and I have a feeling that is the reason. are you a plus or regular member?

have you tried posting tracking code into the checkout page?

I wish shopify would clarify that themselves.

Hi @KyleRM

This is Richard from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder app.

After setting up with 2 steps from Shopify

I checked on real time report of GA4 and was able to see the checkout events

I guess you may not have done any wrong. You can test again and view realtime report to check if you see the events.

Also, to my knowledge, GA4 applied data threshold, which means if your data count is lower than a number, the data won't show up on the report.

Here is what Google said "Data in a report or exploration may be withheld when Google signals is enabled and you have a low user count in the specified date range. When Google signals has been enabled, reports that contain user counts may continue to be subject to thresholding for a period of time after Google signals is disabled. "

In summary, I recommend you to check the realtime report and test if the events are working. And wait or check in a wider time range.

I hope those suggestions help!

Richard.

Please let me know if it works by giving it a Like or marking it as a solution!

Hello @KyleRM,

Good day! Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $5Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot.

It's possible that there are some configuration or implementation issues that are preventing the add_payment_info event and begin_checkout event from being tracked in your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property.

Here are a few things to check:

1. Make sure that the tracking code for GA4 is installed correctly on your Shopify store. You can use the Google Tag Assistant Chrome extension to verify that the GA4 tracking code is firing on the pages where you expect the events to be triggered.

2. Check that the events are correctly implemented in your Shopify store. You can use Google Tag Assistant to verify that the events are being triggered correctly.

3. Ensure that the triggers for the add_payment_info and begin_checkout events are set up correctly in your GA4 property. Check that the event triggers are set up to fire on the correct pages and actions on your site.

4. It's also possible that there simply haven't been any instances of users adding payment information or beginning the checkout process yet. These events will only be triggered when a user takes these specific actions on your site.

If you've checked all of these items and are still not seeing the expected events in your GA4 property, you may want to reach out to the Google Analytics support team for further assistance.

Here's information about why add_payment_info and being_checkout are not working for Shopify's Google Channel GA4 implementation.
