Transfer blog posts from shopify to new shopify store

Hi there,

My client has a Shopify store (A) and it's starting a completely new Shopify store (B). Their plan is to close down store A after they launch store B. However, they have a bunch of blog posts that are ranking significantly well in Google.

With that information, is there any solution to transfer the blog posts from store A to B without losing the Google rankings? I have researched for the past 2 days, and asked to customer service, but nobody seems to be able to give me a solution other than contacting a "Shopify expert".

I hope somebody can help me with this 🙂 It's urgent!

These are really great questions. I can totally see where you're coming from with wanting to transfer the SEO straight over, but even though it would still be a Shopify website, Google would still view it as a net new website under their eyes. I'm wondering if the support advisor was advising you to contact an expert to help the SEO process with the new store once it's live. But it's not possible to simply swap the SEO from one website to another, even if the content is the exact same. 

Can I ask why the client wants to swap stores? Reason I ask is on the off chance it's because of the .myshopify.com URL, once a new domain has been put in, this acts more as a store ID. I wonder is there a way to keep the same store and SEO status then. 

If not and you must go the route of a new store, as the advisor mentioned you can speak to a Shopify Expert for help with this or work on the SEO yourselves. There are some great SEO apps in the Shopify App store too. I personally like SEO manager but it does cost $20 per month. 

P.S. I also saw you were a Shopify Partner from your email and have given you the Partner role in the Community here.

Hi again, and thanks for your reply. However, I think I missed some key information.

Although they are opening a new store (B), they will be keeping the domain of store A, and will be redirecting from A to B. Wouldnt it be a solution just to redirect all pages (blog posts in this case) from the old domain (A) to the new one (B)?

No problem at all, my pleasure. 

I completely get what you're saying and in an ideal world that would be perfect, but even with the domain being the same, it's still going to be seen by Google as a net new website and thus start the SEO process from scratch. This isn't something Shopify or any other web host have control over, it would be up to Google here. Google doesn't use the domain for the SEO process and it goes deeper than that to the sitemap of each website.
